Need a transmission for my 4runner!

So the auto transmission went out on my 4runner right before GSMTR and the transmission shop that was gonna rebuild it came back and said it would cost almost 2 grand over their initial estimate so I’m looking into other alternatives. I know this is a Land Cruiser forum but any help would be appreciated! It’s a 1985 4runner and I think the transmission is an A340F. I know this transmission was used in a lot of trucks but I know there are a lot of differences between the different years and all. I am going to try to get another quote from another transmission shop, but does anyone know where I may be able to get a used one that will work? If anyone has anymore info on this transmission let me know please!! Thanks in advance!

Manual trans swap would be cheaper.

I know you’re right! I really like the auto because I’m lazy in my old age lol! The manual swap may be my best option, I guess I’ve got some researching to do. I remember that 4LowandSlow mentioned at Relic Run that he had a manual transmission that would work. Im just waiting for him to chime in! That is if he still has it.

I haven't been back to the pick and pull place since you and I went there, do you know if they still have that old 4Runner? Admittedly, I was supposed to go and check for @4LowandSlow so I'm ashamed that I didn't get over there... The drivetrain was pretty much untouched, IIRC.

I’m not sure if it is still there or not! When I called about it the first time they didn’t even confirm it was still there! Luckily I was able to find it by Giraffe’s pin. If you do stop by let me know if you can find it. I’m not sure though if the turbo auto is the same.
