I'm trying without success to find a long waterproof duffel bag. Anybody know where I can find one? It's got to be longer than 42 inches and waterproof enough to keep on the bottom of a rubber raft on a float trip. I used to have an ex-military one that was rubber lined in my attic. I tossed it out when the rubber started peeling off. I'm going to look at Army / Navy stores this weekend. I've already looked at REI, West Marine, a local dive shop, a tackle shop and a couple of camping stores.

Check out Kirkham's in Salt Lake City. They make a lot of their own gear and it's quality at very reasonable prices. Just give them a call and tell them what you are looking for. Not sure if they have a website or not. Cheers

Check out the dry bags from rei.com, or go to a local paddleing store and pick one up.

If you want to look at less expensive alternatives look at the dry bag section. Most climbing haul bags are over 100 bucks but try looking at Sierra Trading Posts and campmoor for closeouts.

If you haven't already found one, check out 'KillerDeals.com' and Kokatat.
Russ in California

I guess a rubbermaid container with a lid is out ? :D Cheap though ~$10

TY

Ha-ha! We have some of those rubbermaid containers for home use.

On our Middle Fork trip earlier this month, one of the rafts completely overturned in a rapids. The drybagged stuff stayed dry. I don't think rubbermaid containers would have survived the rocks!

Thanks for all the input but, I ended up buying a Watershed waterproof duffel from www.drybags.com and have already gone on the float trip and come back home. The bag I got works well but it's a bit of a pain to close up. It's like a giant ziploc that you push the sides together to close. Then you fold it over and secure 4 straps. If you don't do that it can easily pop open which it once did in my case. Unfortunately it was pouring rain that day and some of my stuff got wet. All in all it's a good bag though and will definitely keep your stuff dry if done up right and if it's in the bottom of a raft or canoe with water sloshing around the bottom. The reason I wanted a long bag in the first place was that the outfitter told us that only 2 bags per person were allowed on the plane which included rod cases, and that they didn't allow rods as carry on baggage. So naturally, when I showed up there were all kinds of people that had 3 and 4 pieces of luggage and brought rod cases on board with no problem.

By chance were you going to Kamchatka? (See my Russian Landcruiser Post in the wagon section for awesome fly fishing pics. ) I had a similar experience and took 2 Watersheds. Expensive and technical but waterproof when done right. Cabellas now sells a nice large dry duffell with wheels.

DocB; That was a good guess. I did go to Kanchatka on a float/flyfishing trip. Got some great pics I want to put up, but I've gone through my quota. Guess it's time to get a Silver membership. The outfitter who was running our trip, a former KGB vice-colonel, was driving a long-wheelbase 70 series diesel 4 door. Man, I'd love to have that truck! Right hand drive from Japan. It seems like that Japanese law that raises the taxes on their older vehicles out to be called the Foreign Used Car Subsidy Act. I saw a lot of Nissan Patrols, Mini trucks, etc. all with right hand steering. Where exactly do I go to find your pics? The wagon section???

Look in the wagon section under Russian Rainbow Trout and landcruiser pics. Now its on the 2nd page. I spent 14 days on the Ozernaya in August; phenomenal fishing. Would like to chat about your trip and experiences. A most interesting place of the world!
