I'm going on a fishing/float trip and want to take along my good camera. Can anybody recommend a good waterproof bag or box for it?

Definitely Pelican case. Survived the Class IV Chittum Rapids on the Salmon River strapped to the side of an inflatable raft! (Better than I did in my kayak, anyway!)

Yup, Pelican case.

I also use a small gortex bag to store the camera in while it is out of the pelican case to keep the mild water off...

Pelican case look for them on e bay. I have bought a bunch. Not cheap but worth every penney

ya what dey said - I've used them extensively on river trips in the Northwest Territories. They make some new, cheaper, smaller cases - not sure what they're like, but the thicker, bigger boxes are great.

Cheers, Hugh

you want the cheap way out.....big ziplock freezer bag

I can't afford the pelican and the ziplock has worked for me

another option...drybag it

Another cheaper option to a pelican case is a drybag.... not as cheap as a ziplock, but you could use it fer other stuff too. Do alot of canoeing and anytime my nikon goes, it gets stuffed in a dry bag along with cell, wallet, gun, etc. They're not bad on the wallet...just depends on the size. This place is great for good prices on just about anything:

I went to my local outdoors shop and they had exactly one Pelican case in stock. It was the smallest one they make, and my camera doesn't quite fit. You can close the lid but it deforms as it presses against the hot shoe of the camera. Not too good. I guess I'll go for the next size up. Questions: What do they mean by "convoluted lid", and "pluck and pull foam"? Are you supposed to cut the foam to fit your camera, or does the foam have a more or less generic cut-out for a camera? It'd be nice to have different pieces of foam to carry different combinations of things.

For dry, crush-resistant storage, I really like the Pelican cases. FWIW, the new Pelican micro cases also makes a great portable humidor :)

I'm waiting for a http://www.fantasea.com underwater housing for father's day ;)

"pluck and pull foam"?

The foam in the Pelican case's come pre-perforated, so you can basically make any shape "cut-out" from the foam to fit the shape of your camera, gps, etc....

Indespensable case's, as they're not only watertight, but they can take a beating that your camera in a dry bag or ziplock certainly won't survive..

If you can find one (ready for the client plug? wait for it...wait...) the Camera Guard All Weather case. I've got two of them and, aside from working with the company, it's a damn nice case. I've seen a Toyota PU parked on top of one of them before. I've jumped up and down on them, too, with no damage. Comes in two sizes, too.

Also, when I was working there full time, we were going to to a promotional deal with one of these cases. We were going to fill it with eggs and FedEx it around the world a couple of times (with on line tracking) and then have a photoshoot/web cast opening it up once we got it back to show the eggs all okay.

It's basically this case: http://doskosport.com/Catalog.plx?ID=4 only dif is the foam is pre-perfed so you can knock out what you need to fit the camera. call them and they should be able to tell you where to buy one.

I have a pelican computer case. One of the LSLC guys drove over it in his 80 with 37s. Still works just fine.

Pelican Cases

Bar none, Pelican cases are the best in my mind. I use 2 Pelicans to carry my digital camera equipment, as well as my laptop. I too have driven over the small one with my FJ60 and had nothing happen to it. They are water and air tight, hence the air lock valve on them located under the handle. The foam that comes with then is very easy to customize. However, the foam tends to "flake" off and can dirty camera equipment. They also make padded nylon partitions for them...

Here are a few pics of my cases!

Lowepro.... I like the Pelican's, but they're not BAGS.

And, they don't afford easy removal for shooting and replacment.

Plus, the Lowepro floats... it's yellow too, so it's high visibility. For transportation and storage, I use Pelican. For field use, Lowepro!
