Short version, I just recently bought an 87 FJ60(my first cruiser) with compression 150,150,0,78,50,150. I pulled the head off and it had a broken valve on #3(0 psi). I got the head totally re done with all new valves and springs. Threw it back on(the head was going to need redone regardless) now compression is 150,150,150,78,50,150.So my question is now what? Obviously the rings are leaking, but the walls look real good. I could pull the oil pan and change the pistons and hone the cylinders, but if I do that I might as well just pull it and change all the bearings too. Ideally, I would like to find a short block and rebuild it at my leisure so I can still putter around in it as it is. Then when I'm done I can just swap in my rebuilt short block. I can't really find one in this AO, do they pop up or am I going to have to drive 3 states away? What I really want is a 12H-T with H55F but I'll keep dreamin'.

Where are you in Ohio ? I'm just north of Cincy and i will ask a couple of cruiser guys i know that do not get on the net very much...

oh... welcome to the addiction :D...

Thanks,I live and work in Columbus, but home and where the bolt turning happens is in Ashland County, Ohio.Addiction yep, I have already figured out that I could spend as much money on it as I possibly wanted, I just need to get some stick time to figure out what I want.

If it had a broken valve, then the piston & cylinder are destroyed.
But it was probably just a burned valve. Now the rings are carboned into the grooves of the pistons. De-sludge the pistons, a new set of rings, rod bearings if needed, pan gasket & head gasket will get it running again.

I'll sell a spare 81-87 shortblock cheap, if you need one.

Burnt valve because of cracked seat. Head is now 100% with new gasket. Cylinder with burnt valve is now good at 150 psi.I will try de-sludge first as the cylinder walls on my 2 low psi cylinders look good.Is there a tack/sticky on this or just any of the Seafoam etc. procedures out there?thanks
