just bought my 4th child, '94 fzj80 w/ 1fz. previous owner says p/s pump is junk, i suspect the belt is on the wrong side of the pulley. Does anybody have a diagram for the belts on 1fz. thanks, ben.

The PS pump has no belt, it's gear driven. The small pulley you probably think is the PS pump pulley is actually an idler bearing. The (2) belts just barely graze it.

Sorry to hijack but do the fan belts touch the idler pulley on the flat side of the belts or the v side?

Thanks

The V side. All the pulleys on the 1FZ run on the inside of the belts.

Hope this helps any who may need it.

This applies to the FZJ80 and LX450 models with the 1FZFE engine.

The small non-adjustable/fixed idler pulley located between the alternator and the crank pulley is flat as designed, there are no V grooves.

It's been discussed on the forum that the alternator belt idler pulley is more of an anti-bounce pulley (keep the belts from bouncing too much if loose) as compared to other pulleys with a V groove which may serve to help guide and/or tension the belts.

The top photo shows the idler pulley for the alternator belts:

Next photo shows it installed with the belts routed outside of the pulley, just touching the inside of the belts:

For comparison the last photo shows the AC Idler pulley which functions as a belt guide and belt tensioner when attached to it's bracket,
note the V groove for the belt:
