NAV System Annoyance

I'm new to the site. I need help with understanding whether it is possible to somehow override the NAV system's lock on certain features while driving. For instance, if I am trying to locate an address while I am on the road, there is no way for even the passenger to enter the information without my stopping the car. Is there something that I can do for this? I drive a 2003 TLC.

i went to the CL thread where i initially saw it so that i could copy it and drop it for you. much to my dismay, it was gone.
