my 01 LC has a chaffing, scraping noise that only happens when I turn the wheel to the right. It sounds like my brakes are going bad.

Took it to my mechanic and he told me the brakes were fine. My wheels aren't rubbing... Noise is hard to describe... a metal on metal scraping sound. its varies with speed. I can turn the car to the right at stop and no noise. I only really notice it when my windows are down. the scraping chafing noise.

Thanks for the help! Love my truck... just took it on a 1k mile trip.

good question... I have no idea. never serviced them.

You can check your CV joints by finding an open parking lot, turning the wheel all the way to the left and reversing in circles then again to the right. If you hear a clicking noise it should be an outer CV joint up front.

Not sure if this is the sound you're hearing, but it's worth checking.

whatever it is, it doesn't sound good... are CV joints easy to refurbish/ replace?

I would bet it is your CV joints after 176k! I just had mine done (2005 w/56k) at the local Toyota dealer and it was over $1000
but now they are as good as new. I went w/OEM as the aftermarket
CVs are not as reliable from my research.
