This is a great place to go, there is 3 things that is a must on this ride, very good brakes, good clutch and good tires. also don't go alone. I lived in Cheatham Co for 25yrs and they was a guy killed in a fj40 about 30 yrs ago. There is one place there if you was laying down in the bed of a truck going up the hill it would fill like you was standing up.lol This is just my .02 worth. Lee:)

Wow that does sound crazy! Thanks for chiming in Lee, hoping to go explore out that way before the winter really kicks in!

Hey Big Bore thanks for the suggestions.

I saw the Cheatham county powerlines (at least i think its that one) on my new DeLorme map but havent had a chance to explore it yet.

Hadnt heard of the Narrows of the Harpeth, but i'll look into it

Thanks

Hey man sounds great! I am not too far from Cheatham County and would like to check out some of these trails.

I remember that. Thats back in the days when I lived in Nashvegas and had my first 40. Had some insanely good times on those trails with one other guy in a 40 and a guy that had a 48 Willys. Hell, we were just stupid kids and usually didn't even have winches, straps, or much more that buckets with tons of old logging chains. Damn those were the days. Gas was cheap and we were too stupid to know the difference.

So has anyone hitbup the power lines recently?

Havent had a chance. Been out the country for work this month ... will probably check it out in the new year. Im thinking Feb as Jan is slammed for me.
If you decide to go report back what you find out

I'm not sure where the power lines are exactly, but I would like to check them out.

Just got back from Flat Top Mt. near the Cove. It has very similar terrain, but the ability to access a main dirt road with out having to spend the entire day on the trail. Some trails are about a hour long with 4 to 5 vehicles, then you come out on a road and can choose another trail. It's nice when you are limited on time, but want more to ride on than a service road.

Hey let me know next time you go. I am in the Hendersonville area and would love to check them out!

I've been going out to behind the Westhaven development on 96 in Franklin a bunch this week. Definitely private land, but a foreman told me as long as it's after hours and no booze it's no problem. If you go in the construction entrance there are a few miles of barely graded trails including what's probably a few hundred acres of very hilly farmland, including a couple of small creek crossings.

I live in east Tn now, but when I was in middle Tn they where several places to go. This has been 25yrs + ago and may have changed now, lol. Brush Creek bottoms, west? close to the west of Ashland City, Mill creek is out near Centerville Tn west of Dickson, there is a link below of both ends of the trail, [take a fly rod and catch a bunch of rainbow trout also.] they are spurs off the trails. enjoy all of gods beauty and have fun doing it.lol.

Has anyone been out to millcreek in the last few years? I'll be down that way in the next couple days, but was wondering if there are fences across the trail by now. It looks really good on google maps though, a few hours of dirt roads are visible.

They should not be any thing across the trails, Mill creek is stocked with trout and the stock truck has to go through there, witch used to be a 3/4ton chevy truck. But they are still on the stocking schedule so I assume it is sill open. But I know what happens when you ASSUME!!

I went out to Old Mill Creek this morning to ride the trail, I stood around at a gas station asking for tips and a guy gave me info for the best fishing and swimming holes. The map you gave is perfect; the 'road' goes from chip and asphalt, then it switches to a very rutted and offcamber clay trail. It's surrounded by private property and plenty of signs, but the local told me that the further you get in it's mostly property with no one living there, and that as long as you stay on the trail or stick to the river if walking no one would care. I caught half a dozed brook trout all at least 12 inches going to 15 inches. They quit stocking this creek in 02, so these are now wild trout and they were a lot of fun sight casting to and would jump out of the water once they were on the line.

I only made it a third of the trail coming in from the east and had to turn around, I passed three creek crossings- the first two were only a foot deep and the third ended up two feet deep. Immediately on the next bank was an offcamber mud hole that was 3 feet deep on the left side to a slick hill climb. I turned around at the top because the clay was too slick on the next descent without another rig with me. This spot would be pretty easy to slide off and get stuck with no cell service and no people for a few miles.

Yes If my memory serves me right that red clay is slick as s$#* when it is wet and I have been stuck there in a 63 VW bug before.lol They where some deep crossing and slick clay, but again it's been many yrs ago. Thanks for posting this it brings back so many memory's of the trip's and fishtails of the past.
