Error3 on Nakamichi 6 Disc in dash changer. Took the Nakamichi Head unit out yesterday and took it to local electronics shop. Dealer recommended them. Unit is trying to eject CD, but can't quite get it out which in the dealers and the little electronics shop's opinion should be an easy fix. I hope so because of the well documented lack of wiring harness for this unit, new reconditioned unit would cost me 400 online. Cross your fingers for me.

Shop is Pierson's Electronics here in Spokane. I'll update Monday or Tuesday after I get the verdict. No cost estimate yet, but in his precursory opinion of putting power to the unit and recreating the error if it's just a jam I'd only be looking at $40-$60. ;p His shop is factory authorized for Jenson, Clarion, Kenwood, Bose, Mark Levenson and several others so he should know what he's doing. If he does a good job cheap I'll post all the contact info for them, could be a great affordable solution for us LX470 owners.

Or not. They just called and told me that there was nothing they could do. The guy just told me over and over how it was such a beautiful system and how I should not even consider a change. Blah blah blah, I get that you're not comfortable working on it but don't tell me it's the freakin sh** cause it don't even work. Anyway back to square one.

I saw an add on ebay for service on the Nakamichi for like $200. Anyone had any experiance getting these servieced? Recommendations?

Well, considering I have to drive to Seattle this weekend, I just broke down and went to Downtown Lexus here in Spokane for a new unit. Luckily, I had not torn into the Nakamichi and the cost was about half with the core trade in. 2-3 days and it will be here, they commited to have it in by Friday.

These are real easy to take off, four screws and three plugs.

I figured it was worth it to keep the great sound, a custom install with all new amp and bypass would have cost me $800, so put into that perspective the $550 they charged me was not that bad.

Word to the wise, don't tear into one of these as the unit would have cost me over $1100 without a soilid core trade. Althrough, I knew it was busted when I bought it and I did get a smokin deal so I can't be too upset.;) At least now I will have a resolution.

BTW, why do I get the feeling that I'm talking to myself?

I'll bite...My boss has a Benz with a single din 6 disk in dash changer that had an error message. Crutchfield did not have one in dash 6 disk changer. They don't sell them anymore. I ended up installing a changer in the trunk and a new head unit for around $370.

After I finished the install, I tore into the old Nakamichi unit to recover the disks. Pretty complex stuff in there. Gears, Bands, Springs, motors, everywhere...its a miracle that it lasted as long as it did. I still have the face plate and bezel if anyone needs one.

Que Walter Sobcheck on the Big Lebowski. "The beauty is in the simplicity, once a plan gets too complex dude, everything can go wrong."

T colvin - Yeah, you are pretty much SOL. Just to have the thing serviced at an authorized servicer, good luck funding one, was a minimum of $350. And that would just be for a cleaning, if it needed parts, that would drive up the price. Cheapest referb unit I could fund online was over $400 plus shipping, and that is from some namless company who know's where on ebay. At least this way it's through the dealer and has a parts and labor warrenty.

I did a lot of research and for me, it was worth it to get resolution.

Travis351 - Would have loved to replace with a nice fresh top of the line unit but after speaking with a master installer and realizing I would be out at least about $600-800 depending on the hardware as I would need a new amp and everything. Or start cutting wires and hope for the best. I was kind of over the barrel on it.

Shhhh! Do you hear that? That's the sound of my $300 being flushed.:crybaby: I pick my new one up tomorrow.

LOL. Well, at least if you have any problems, you simply go back to the dealer. These guys warranty for 4 or 6 months, but when I asked "okay guys, when you fix this is it going to break every 8 months", they were pretty confident that once fixed, it should have several years of service before having more issues. Maybe I'm a sucker, but I believe them, and believe in their work, and default to thinking the better of people versus the worst. We'll see. I know you'll enjoy having a repaired system, as we are!

Yeah, my 7 month old daughter is getting pretty upset at me for not having her Jack Johnson or Black Lodge Singers on when I pick her up everyday. She just looks at me like, yeah, and where's my freakin tunes Dad. I see a rear seat DVD unit in my future.

BTW, the unit I've got coming (hopefully today) is a new unit from Nakamichi (or whom ever makes them for Nakamichi) and comes with a 1 year warranty.

Well, finally got it back from the dealer today and installed. Sounds great and like new. Actually ended up lucking out and getting a brand new unit from the factory, 5 year warrenty. Apparently it was surplus.

Veggie Tales Silly Songs = Happy Baby.

Took them long enough though, it was initially supposed to be two days but the dealer f**cked up and did not change over the owner so the thing sat there for 4 days with me calling every day to check on status. Finanlly called yesterday and asked to speak with managment and someone actually checked. Was under previous owners name because that's what was in the old file. Very fustrating, they tried the ol' oh it just came in trick. When I picked it up I made them show me the shipping invoice and sure enough, it had been there since last Thursday. Got no apology or anything. Asked to speak with the parts manager and asked him if this is the kind of service I can expect to see from Lexus. Anyway, he ended up apologizing and gave me a free oil change and a couple of nice black Lexus fleece vests. Better than nothing.

Spokanelx470, I bought a portable DVD player for my trip to AZ this past week and my daughters loved it. I got it from Best Buy for around $179 as oppose to the one in the head rest which would have cost me $2,000. I don't know how long it will last, but for $179, I cann't complaint too much.

2000 LX 470, Thanks for the information. I think I will get in touch with him.

Yeah, I think that's the best move. I was looking over the Miniteck we got at Costco a couple years ago and I did not realize it had these straps that can hang it between the headrests.

With the placement of the sunroof and the dome light you can't really mount one for the back seat in the middle and the head rest jobbers are expensive like you said.

My only regret with the headunit is that I can't get an AUX jack for a mini-jack.

Stop the presses.

I just had the exact same problem, shipped it off to the guys in Texas that advertise on ebay, they turned it around in 2 days and I got it in 2 days. It was like $180 plus I padi $20 to ship it to them. Highly recommend them. Here you go:
eBay Motors: LEXUS LX470 NAKAMICHI RADIO CD CHANGER (REPAIR SERVICE) (item 370021654224 end time Feb-16-08 12:52:26 PST)

Hi, I would like to ask how your purchase from said Ebay seller is doing? I have the same year and model and have had 6 CD's stuck since about May/June. It's driving me crazy.
