Just for your info, you have 2 pictures of the passenger side cam there. The second one you said is the drivers where they lined it up with the "T" aka rookie mistake, that is the passenger cam again you can see the injectors to the right of it. Also the drivers cam has a lip on the outside edge, looks very different. So when crank is at 0 is it 45 degrees off or lined up with the "T". It's quite a difference between the 2.

hmm, Thanks for pointing that out, not even being to the "rookie" level myself I'll need to check when I pick it up this afternoon.

no problem, I just did this job recently so I am familiar with the cam gears.
If they know what they are doing they should be able to fix it either way, good luck.

^^^^^^This is exactly what happened to me! The shop that did my timing belt last had the passenger side off by 2 teeth - it was causing poor performance and cylinders 2,4,6,8 throwing misfire codes (passenger side). Two different import shops couldn't figure out what was wrong with it so I ended up taking it to Toyota. Toyota diagnosed the timing being off by 2 teeth early morning the day they worked on it. Toyota ended up putting a new OEM timing belt on, water pump, etc. Also replaced the crank position sensor which you may want to do as well... Hard lesson learned for me... Either do it yourself so you know it's done right or take it to Toyota. My local dealership was very reasonable, great customer service and had my truck back in 1 business day.

On the flip side... i did the work myself...replaced everything, seals, WP, Serp...etc. Put it all back together and was off by a tooth. I could not get it back to center and it was making an awful noise. Had it towed to my mechanic to set it correctly and no issues.

got it back today, haven't had a chance to talk with the tech yet but it feels like it should. Not quite as peppy as my 07 GX470 but close enough.
