I am desperate to find out what is going on with my wife's 2001 4Runner. It keeps blowing the fuse that is for the radio/power mirrors. Any idea what it could be. As soon as i turn on the switch it pops the fuse.

Sounds like there is a short somewhere. It blows the fuse when you turn on which switch, the ignition switch? If that is the case, I am guessing the radio is the culprit since it will power on automatically at startup. Is it aftermarket by any chance?
When did it start happening? Did it coincide with any modifications or just out of the blue (I doubt it)?
What else is on that circuit?

i know the power mirrors, radio. my antenna broke and does not go up and down any more but I can hear the the motor running when the engine is cut off.

yes. that is on there too. Any idea how to fix it?

Here's how to replace the antenna if that's what you mean... The broken antenna should not be popping the fuse though...

Thanks for the info on fixing the antenna but what I really need is to figure out why I keep blowing this fuse. It is the fuse in position # 27 (15 amp). It has the car audio system, power antenna, clock, cigarette lighter, seat belt pretenisioner, electronic controlled automatic transmission system, power outlets, theft deterent system and power rear view mirror control..althought i dont think my car has this.
any ideas on how to determine which one it may be??????

have you ever cut or gone under the dash at all.... are you the first owner?

I have never opened the dash, but I am not the first owner. Everything seems to be stock on the vehicle.
The power antenna could very well be the culprit if you can hear it running, but the mast is stuck. The motor may be overloading from trying to push up the antenna.
You could start by removing the radio and unplugging the harness from it. If the fuse no longer blows, then the antenna is probably the cause. If that is the case, then the power antenna wire is usually a blue wire. Sometimes it will have its own fuse, sometimes not. If it has its own fuse, or a seperate connector that you can seperate, then disconnect it, and plug the radio back in. If the fuse still doesn't blow, then you've found the problem.

did you try turning it on and of really fast?
how about whackin it real good?
can you shake it?
maybe get a stick and jam it around in there.
if that doesnt work, put your hands on your hips and shake your head at it. that usally works.

You could hit it with your purse 
fixed it yet? curious what the problem was.

no. i tried to put a meter in the fuse slots but wasn't able to get any readings and i started selling something burning.
Maybe you can bring to the dealer?
