My first serious body work. I finally got around to fixing my "trail damage" from the June GWNF ride. It ain't perfect, but it's good enough to delay a new quarter panel. :) The color doesn't match - I've had a helluva time getting a red to match. I may be heading to a specialty paint shop to mix me a custom batch. I took pics at each step if anybody is interested. I don't want to waste bandwidth is this is old hat to everyone else. BIG THANKS to Ryan who helped me pick out the products and give me a suggested strategy! Thanks to Stum as well for helpful hints. Enjoy!

One pic of the damage and two pics of the (almost) finished repair.

Dave,

It looks good, who gives a crap if the paint color matches exact or not. Wear it like a combat ribbon. With honor. You did the work yourself. Rock On !:hillbilly:

Dave,

Don't try to steal my "Bondo Bob" title!

That's what my wife said. BTW, easy for you to say Tom, you and your immaculate paint job! ;)

Immaculate !! It looks and feels like a damn orange peal . Thank God for trail pin striping. My time is coming I'm glad I've got an extra quart for touch up. :flipoff2:

I go by many names Grasshopper.

Dave,

Looks great! Bring it by over the weekend and we'll get it stuck in my backyard.

Welcome to the I done it myself club, Dave. I love painting outside in the wind!

Looks fine. Is that indent at the very bottom next to the taillight stock?

Yeah, unidirectional spray paint. Of course, I'm glad to be sanding outside!

Um, yeah, sure, why not. :D No, I just didn't feel like dinging it out.

It's still a helluva lot nicer than mine. Besides, I like orange peel - it reminds me of my thighs.

I'll never look at my cruiser the same again  Your such a slut

I didn't think so, but thought I'd ask anyway. When you do start to fix it, remember to tap lightly with the hammer. Many light taps, as hard bangs will embrittle/harden the steel. Can't remember who told me that, could have been a body man I knew or maybe Ryan.

Goddammit Dan, I wasn't gonna bother with it but now you got me thinking. Harbor Freight has a set of metalworking hammers/dollies for $30. I passed on them two weekends ago because I wasn't going to deal with it. I can't afford the Martin stuff. Damn you. Alright, I guess it's going on THE LIST.

I bought that HF set a year or two ago and it is really nice. It goes on super sale for like $20 or less over the Winter usually.
