Hey everyone I am still here at Ft Lewis waiting to get a medical discharge. I just scored a sweet trailer. It is a 1991 that was completly rebuilt and repainted this Feb. 39 of them just went up for auction. Only 15 were in perfect rebuilt shape. (new everything, complete military overhaul) The bad ones were really good too. The Govt liquidations auction is a little weird. When you bid on something the auction extends for 10 or 15 mins. I could only bid on one at a time. So I was getting mad that some of the perfect ones were going for 400 bucks but I was stuck. I am sure some big guy was bidding on all of them. I was angry I had to pay $546 bucks for mine.(mine has brand new cooper tires but I wanted one of the ones with BFG's...oh well) I know I scored. It is perfect. I cant wait to pick it up. I guess that takes a week or more for the paperwork. Christmas might make that longer but I only have to switch the lights to 12v and I will be happy. I am not sure how to rig the blackout lights to 12v??

2330 - Trailers at Government Liquidation

Here is a naked one that was perfect but didnt have a tarp

I should be here for about 6 more months. I would gladly preview them for one of you guys. Just pay attention to their website... it seems they are fazing these out. I have seen the new trailers and they would never work behind a Land Cruiser. These things will get expensive once the auctions are over. I need to get one for my brother now. Just PM me or contact me @ NV2ND@hotmail.com. I could then give you my phone number and I will check them out before the auctions begin. I had a list of the 15 perfect ones so I new what I was bidding on. It took an hour of looking but was worth it, I cant wait to show it off. Dont get angry your tax dollars paid for an overhaul just to be sold to me. Ha ha

Good luck on that paperwork. My auction closed back on the 4th and the paperwork is STILL bouncing back an forth. The website appears to be useless as far as status updates go. It still says I haven't paid even though the money disappeared from my account and I've confirmed with them on the phone twice that payment has been received, and it says I still haven't submitted my paperwork even though that has been confirmed as received as well.

Anyway the point being don't depend on the site for status if things seem to be dragging on, make a phone call.

It403,
I will get the exact dimensions for you on monday or tuesday if you want and PM them to you. But this is what they are advertised at. 147"x74"x74"(LxWxH) that seems right. But I havent put a tape to it yet. The tires are 235/16R I believe and I am thinking it said 497 cubic feet of room if I remember right.

Tgreening,
I have talked with the people in scottsdale who run the whole deal. They answered all my questions. I am not to worried because I can just go to the Ft Lewis office and talk to the guys there. I am sure if there is a problem they could help me out. They seem pretty cool.

Do these models have the dump bed?

Do these models have the dump bed?

Yes these do have the dump bed.

M101a1 - 3/4 Ton, dump bed, straight tongue

M101a2 - 3/4 Ton, dump bed, surge brake

M101a3 - 1 Ton, dump bed, surge brake (two different axle options, drop spindles is for HMMWV, straight spindles is for CUCV, both match prime movers lug space)

I wonder if my old trailer is being sold off??

The M101's have been on the phase-out list for some years now. My BN at Lewis was getting M1101 and M1102's when I was leaving there back in '05. 2/3id, 1/25id, and 1SFG were already dragging their newer trailers back in '00. Depends where on the chopping block the unit is.

The M101's are great trailers, a bit big for most trail vehicles, but for utility alone they are quite handy. I have been very tempted to pick up an A2 to complement my Japanese Type 73.

Things I learned from years of dragging one of these.

- Don't slam on your brakes with an empty A2 or A3. The surge brakes WILL lock up the wheels and you will be skidding your trailer to a stop.

- Also, unless you have the landing leg on the rear frame member, don't sit on tail-gate while unloaded... they tip fast.

- If you have bows and tarp, take a piece of plywood and slip it between the top of the bows and tarp. This will prevent water from pooling on the tarp.

- If you don't heed my last warning, and water does pool, climb inside, put your back to the "puddle" and push up... it will drain quickly.

- Watch your tow vehicle for any overhanging items if you have an A2 or A3. Some guys would leave their M998/1025/1026/1114 tail gate down while towing the trailer for the dreaded Ft. Lewis QAQC inspections. The tail-gate would sheer the surge brake reservoir fill cap off at the threads, when turning. You don't want that to happen.

I'd love to get my hands on an uncut M101 and a complete M105 with racks, bows, and tarp. I'll be watching. ;)

If you see something your bro doesn't want, I'd appreciate a heads-up, Mike. THANKS!!!!!!

I am picking up a M101A and need to find out what I have to do to make it road-worthy. I know I need a pintle hitch but what about lights? Are there any other things I should be aware of to get it home and then use it?

thanks, John
