I just picked up my "new" LX 450 in Reno NV and drove it 1170 miles home to Colorado with no issues! :bounce:
It's a 1996 with 153,000 miles on it and near mint. It has the factory lockers and the phone and first aid kit are still there. The seats don't have any cracks in them. This Lexus was pampered during it's life. Oh, and it's a one owner LX!
My plans are to slowly (because of funds) build this up to an expedition vehicle that I can take the family camping and exploring in. It is also going to be my DD so the modifications to the drivetrain will be mild (for now:)).
First off, though, will be to baseline it. I have read and re-read many of the FAQs on baselining, but is there a comprehensive list of what exactly to do, and what is the best order?
I have also read the threads on red vs green coolant, but mine came with the long life orange in it. I am going to flush the system as soon as possible and put in the red, but how bad is this coolant for our cruisers? Should I park the Lexus until I can flush it, or is it not that bad?
I will get some pictures later, but thought I would post this up first.
This dealer, by the way, loves cruisers and had two or three more in his lot and is always looking for them to buy. If anyone is in the area and interested in the info on this dealer, shoot me a pm.
Thanks to the forum for the great information I got leading up to my purchase and the information coming!

You know what they say, it doesn't exist without pics. This board is extremely OCD when it comes to these vehicles so keep that in mind.

Congrats on the locked LX and welcome to the Pink Panty Club!

Thanks, pictures will come by this weekend. Still recovering from the trip. The Lexus made it very comfortable though (and I'm used to driving our Land Rover LR3 for long trips).

Subluxator, I am counting on the OCDness of the forum. That will keep me straight. :D

No pics? Lies and distortions....

Photos of the 4 gas stops would be good as well...

It still has the phone!

Sweet, awaiting pics

never happened.

For all you naysayers, pictures will come soon, I promise!:D

Good guess on the number of gas stops. Yeah, the gas was a big expense of the trip, but the Lexus did better on gas than I was expecting.

pics or your telling a long thought out lie!

Where in Colorado?

I would not loose sleep over the coolant. Change it out when you have the time. Along with the other baseline items. Unless there are leaks or strange noises I would not worry about too much.

The best thing about baselining the vehicle is you get yourself familiar with many of the different parts of the truck. And potentially find problems that could cause trouble in the future. But you just drove it 1100 miles. So it should have proven its self pretty good there.

I'm in Colorado Springs. I am looking forward to getting the baselineing done and getting more familiar with it. That's one of the reasons I wanted to go with a stock vehicle and learn as I go.
I followed your thread on the Ironman lift with interest. I am thinking of the same thing. Sounds like a good option.
Thanks.

Alright... for all you guys drooling for pictures I might be able to get some today, although the vehicle will be snow covered.:)

Does anyone know of another place to get the CDL switch? I know you can get them from the RAV 4, is that any year?
Thanks, and... patience grasshoppa.:D

Dan

I have plenty of red hazard switches lying around. They make excellent CDL switches. They even light up. Pm me for details.
