so i thought it would be a good day to do some more mods on the old girl
the next thing on the agenda was a body lift which seams to be what everyone is doing these days so why not put one in the cruizer
so first thing was to strip the cruizer to get to all the mounts
bodylift003.jpg

we had a little trouble with one off the mounts so out came the grinder and that was the end of that one
bodylift002.jpg

then it was time to work out how much i needed then make up the mounts

bodylift006.jpg

quality work place health and safety here as we lifted the body
bodylift008.jpg

and off course some of the bolts were not long enough so a little custom work and we have a new one

so some shots of the finished product

next up will be the bar work, lift the front bar and fill in the rear

I'm gonna be joining the crew sometime soon....can't fit 42's without it.

Looks good, fully custom? Was removing the seats necessary or just helpful?

since when is everyone doing body lifts?

I did one. Does that count? :flipoff2:

You have to remove the front two seats to access the mount below them. Those are the only two that need to be removed.

How much of a lift did you do? I did 1" (from 4 crawler) and had to adjust my radiator brackets (trimmed some of the bushing to lower it about 1/2"). How did you deal with the radiator/fan interferance?

Those stacked 2x4 scare me.

When I did mine we lifted it with a floor jack under the rocker panels, with a single board to distribute the weight a bit. Even that made me a bit nervous....

I also had a 6x6 I stood up lenthwise under the rocker panel that happened to be the right length as an extra safety.

went 35mm and yes u need to take out the front seats to get to the bolts. well everyone here in my hometown is doing them. and i just cut out the bottom of the radiator and will see how that goes for now

????????????? You cut the bottom of the radiator

What did you use for body blocks?

I would guess the fan shroud.

Why not just use jack stands? There cheap ($20) and make things safe.

Cutting the shroud is (IMHO) a mistake. It is *VERY* easy to adjust the radiator mounts. You can easily gain a half inch or more of clearance just by trimming the bushings, which was all that was required for me. The fan is still not perfectly centered, but it's pretty close.

Jack stands don't really work so well. You have to uncompress the suspension, so you can only lift the body. There aren't any real good places to put jack stands where they would do some good (at least not as they are designed).

You could use them as an additional safety by placing them under the body once it's lifted, but my concern there would be that if the floor jack did fail it would simply drop onto the jack stand which would rip right through the body (as it doesn't distribute a lot of weight). Additionally mine weren't tall enough to reach a point where they'd do any good, hence why I stood a 6x6 on end as an additionally support should something fail.

If you had a stout metal pole you could actually slide it on top of the tire and into the gap between the body and the frame. That would actually hold quite well in a critical failure situation, as the bar would be supported on two sides with a very small gap, and if it bent up the body it's in a place that's not as visible/critical.
