Well, things worked out and I picked up my new-to-me '04 GX this evening. I think I got a good deal, and drove it about 40 miles home. This baby really likes to cruise at 75 mph... A few of the stretches of road I frequent are enforced at around 60 so I'll have to watch it! Seller also had a set of 5 GX wheels that he said I could have if I wanted, so they are in the back right now - into my storage area tomorrow. May put some more burly rubber on those, and keep the MIchelin LTX tires (which only have about 12k miles on them) for my local and highway drives.

There are some scratches and a bit of clear coat fading on a couple of spots, hood is pretty bad but I think I can do some rubbing & polishing and get it all looking pretty good. LED Headlights and have the original bulbs for spares if I need. Can't wait to start modding/fixing this up!

Congrats. One of the best colors, IMO.
What mods are you looking at?

Thanks, I will probably replace the suspension with a 2" lift, and go to a larger diameter tire - in fact, I think you put a 255/75-17 on yours if I recall? How did they fit (if you had it that way) with the stock suspension? Any rubbing?

While the adjustable height rear suspension works, and the comfort > sport adjustable dampers still work fine on this, I know it is a matter of time before they DON'T work and then I'll lift things a little... Maybe even before things go south. Part of the reason I think I got such a good deal is the seller didn't have time to detail the car. Tomorrow it will get vacuumed and gone over, maybe even a bath in the evening. Maybe a cloudy day will happen where I can deal with the oxidized paint on the hood and right-side fender bulges. Hood is pretty rough - fenders are minor.

Then I plan on driving her for a while. Ultimately want to convert it to an overland-style rig for exploring Central Oregon where I have a place, and then also into the Sierra Foothills when I am in the Bay Area. Got out there a bit in my Trooper years ago, but it has been gone since '05 and that was part of my desire for another 'real' off-road capable vehicle. Hopefully the GX will be at least as capable as the Trooper was. (I'm sure it is more capable in many ways, but it's a bit bigger and wider - that damn Trooper would squeeze into some really tight trails!) Most of my off-roading was in So Cal, lots of Anza Borrego and San Diego East County, as well as around Big Bear lake.

Good memory...I have 255-75/17 BFG KO2’s.
I had them on my stock suspension for a short while...no rubbing, but I only drove on the street during that time. I can’t vouch for any off-road action with that set-up.
I then put an Ironman Nitro kit on...about 2.5” lift. I’ve been off-road several times since, and have worked the suspension fairly thoroughly. No rubbing at all, in forward or reverse. This is without having to push mud flaps or heat plastic or pound pinch-welds.
And, the spare fits, though just barely.
Next time you make a trip up to Central Oregon, give a shout. Thats our favorite area to explore.

Thanks for the info! I am in the process of putting a small house on a little piece of land near Sunriver. Been looking forward to exploring the area. Between my MTB, Dual Sport and now this little rig, I think I will have my bases covered to go play. I'm planning on about a 2" or so lift. Not a lot, but a little more clearance and room for the slightly larger tires. I just found what looks like a really good deal on 265/70s and those would work too - but I like the look of the 255/75 on my buddy's truck. The Michelin that came on the GX are almost new, and I might as well drive them down. Having a 2nd set of wheels will be nice tho. (Almost thought about getting Mud Terrains on that set and putting them on when I plan on heading off onto a more dirt-oriented adventure, but doubt I'll need more than a good A/T tire). Hope to cross trails - I'll be up there in couple of weeks, but in my van, so the only off-roading will be pedal-powered.

Nice truck and good color!

Congrats! Our trucks are twins. I LOVE the color.

I have the same Michelins on mine too, really happy with them so far.
