Howdy! I bout this truck off of a forum member back in January and JUST now got it to pass emissions, I've been commuting on my dual sport in the mean time and working on it when I have time and funds.
TRUCK!!

Ok, so that's that. The truck hadn't been registered since 2016 in CA, according to the old plates, so I figured it wouldn't be too hard to pass smog in AZ. My initial test failed idle HC, CO and running HC. So first things first, I rebuilt the carb (the secondary wasn't working at all) then replaced the plugs and wires. After that I only failed running HCs, and then it sat for a while while I worked up the courage to set the valve lash. I looked through the forum for a guide and set my lash while cold and also replaced my nasty cap and rotor. Once it was running better than ever I noticed a large vacuum hose leak from low on the carb which took my idle from around 650 to 100 or so. I found a friend that could help me check the timing and vacuum advance as well as re-baseline the carb and I passed everything, even if my idle CO is a tad high. Hopefully this will be useful information for someone looking for smog help.
Here are my final and previous smog readings

After that I started poking around in the cab and found this snaking its way into my loom behind the fuse box. It doesn't light up, I have NO idea what it is or what it does. I do know the PO had some sort of light bar attached because I have a row of switches on my center console, attached to nothing.

All being said, I love the truck, but I will need to re-seal the front axles soon as well as find a transmission somewhere since I don't have synchros in 2nd (I just clutch-less shift it in and out of 2nd now) and it leaks out the input shaft (I think) and back and forth between the trans and tcase (I did the hose linking the two to equalize the levels, which seems to work well). Glad to meet you guys, this forum has been incredibly helpful and will continue to be once I start tackling other projects like my axle seals.

You got it!
This hose was jacked, I replaced two others this size by the dizzy, but this was the only one that changed the idle.

Gotcha. Could be the VCV on that side too. I was just wondering. My truck is desmoged and I've replaced all lines. Struggling w/ idling off choke after many fixes. At my wits end. If weather isn't a mess after work tmrw I'm gonna start plugging all ports I can on the carb and see what happens then. Gotta order a mighty vac too so I can get a better idea if something's faulty in the system.
Thanks tho for the pix.
Nice truck, keep it going!
