Update: while improved, it's still not right. Damn! I thought for sure.....anyway. Maybe the pump is just bad? The problem is if you "yank" the steering wheel at slow speed, it's bogged down BIG time- forget doing slalom type turns.. That's really the issue. Imagine trying to turn quickly left then right- Not in this truck. ;) Cleaning it definitely helped the MOVING turning, but that's it.

Back to the drawing board.

Doing some additional research with the seller- she provided me receipts from a shop that replaced the steering rack with NEW steering rack. She mentioned that she thought the steering was "heavier" after that as I described. Any ideas what the issue might have been after the install? The rack is supposed to have been installed in 2015.

Another post mentioned that Tensioner Pulley replacement solved his similar issue- weak pulley tension was causing belt slippage under load/near lock to lock on steering.

I cleaned out the reservoir, and flushed the system of old ATF/PS fluid. Steering was improved, but near lock to lock, or when jerking from left to right at slow speeds is bad. Tire pressure is good.

How can one tell if the Power Steering pump is weak, anyway? I plan on replacing the Tensioner Pulley and Belt and see if that makes a difference. Last night, I jacked up the truck with the engine off and went through the bleed procedure. As I turned from lock to lock, a large amount of fluid "burped" right through the cap and onto my garage floor. Could there be air trapped in the system?
