The Barron is a great rig and performs REALLY REALLY well offroad, only reason i'm getting rid of it is the fuel range. I want to do some long trips to the outback etc and with a petrol/gas engine I just cant get good range from the tanks. With the diesel i'm looking at getting DOUBLE the range.

Hello,

Once again the performance is great but the fuel bill hurts. Too bad.

On the other hand, diesels seem to run forever on a single tank. The best choice for long range, long duration trips.

The only thing that deters me from getting a diesel is the lack of qualified mechanics: I have met one or two (never seen them again) good ones, the others have no idea what they are doing.

Again, enjoy your new rig and rest assured that you will not run out of fuel. If I could only find a diesel in good shape...

There is little performance difference between my FJ73 on 33'' tyres and BJ74 on 31'' tyres. The FJ73 beats on ultimate acceleration due to larger rev range, but the BJ74 holds gears better up hills etc and feels to have better in gear acceleration.

Both H55F and 4.1 diffs.

In Aus diesels are very popular and there is are many mechanics and specialised workshops that deal with them.

Dude ya making me homesick stop it.

Nice RIg I assume 13B-T in it ?? These things here are sill the equivalent of $12K AUD. Whats the prices in OZ for them?

Sure is a 13B-T, in Aus they can get up around that mark, most decent ones are over 10K from what I found. I pounced on mine as it was less than half that, needs some work but still alot cheaper than the norm.

The engine serial number is stamped on the left side of the block.

The silver bullit is in desperate need of some mods hulsty :)

What sort of tray does your dads truck have? My old man needs something like that ladder rack for longer materials. Also what economy is he getting?

Also more pics of middy with 60diffs please :)

I have never noticed how much the front end differed with the newer models.

Hey mate, made a new thread for SPUA with 60 diffs

https://forum.ih8mud.com/70-series-tech/323018-60-diffs-under-70-series-spua.html

Dads car has a all steel fleet trades tray. Front and rear 3'' tubes for ladders. I'll get some more pics.

Economy he is getting 13-14L/100km towing his tool trailer for work everywhere in the suburbs. So pretty happy with that, only a coupla thousand kays on it too.

love em middys.... wrecking my head to make the old bloke who owns the only middy 74 in Fiji to sell it to me..... guess wot... it has a 1HD-T under the hood...... so m keeping my fingers crossed and prayin hard...

Sell and Find your Car on Car4Sale.com.fj (Fiji Islands)

even the darn airbox has the factory spec stickers still on... if the 74 doesnt work out, i just might get this oldie....

ahh, I too had a FJ73 middy...
Until i ripped the 3F out. haha!

Now there's a 1FZFE going in with front and rear lockers.

Also, i have a 155lt 4wd systems tank.
It's a bitch to fit, you've gotta mod the sender (also a bitch)
but it's the cheapest out there on the market i know of.
I went through the exercise of my tank rusting out so i had a choice...
Wait for a factory one from japan - 3 months and about $1200 that the time
or
Get a 155lt replacement within a week and get it cheaper.

Hmmm... difficult choice.

Some people find it hard to find one 70 series, particularly in North America, down here in Aus there are a few about and now i've got TWO!!

:bang:

Yea we are pretty backward up here man. But good things come to those who wait. Someday I will buy me an HZJ 75 pick up like the one owned by TLCruiserman. Ship it to the states. It's just a matter of time. I will trust me I will.

Nice one Hulsty, I envy you for being able to have 2 them.

Boogie, it is diffenitly a 90 l tank. Mine also goes way under E. I useally use the lower part of the stripe as my "empty mark", and never had more than 83 l added.

When I tested my tank, I drove with an xtra 5 l in the back, it went way past E, then when going uphill, it started to sputter and I shut off & pulled over. Added the 5 l, done a quick couple of pushes on the pump until it got feul up, and drove to the filling station some 5km further. Added some 83.43 l to be exact. No problems whatso ever after the dry run test. JUST DO IT !
