I don't know if anyone is interested or not, but I thought I'd throw a couple of pics out here. I ended up building a PTO shifter out of part of a 3 speed t-case shifter. It has genuine ACE hardware linkage too. LOL. It's not beautiful, I've got a lot of cleanup to do on it, along with a little paint. It seems to work good though. Thanks.

Yep- that ought to do well! Just a thought- I had a pto shifter on a truck that was totally seized up and would not come off. Based on that and my propensity to grease stuff I put a Zerk on the lever setup that I made. I grease it every time I grease the driveshaft joints.

How is this working out for you?
I have a PTO set up, however I am missing the linkage and shift lever to engage the PTO from within the cab. I can manually shift if from underneath the vehicle, but that's not an option in the field.
My tranny is a 4 speed. Are you running a 3 speed or a 4 speed tranny?

Any chance you might be willing to make a second one with the grease zerk? If so, how much would it run for?

Thanks,

Doesn't appear the guy who did this is on mud anymore. Hasn't posted anything since 2013. This really isn't that hard to do. Years ago when I switched from a three speed to a four speed I used some old high/low transfer case linkage. Cut it to the size I needed. threaded the end and used the original connector. The other piece that goes thru the floor is from a early style transfer case floor shifter. Only difference the PTO shifter was lighter and the threaded hole for it on the transmission is smaller than that needed for the transfer case.

simple to make you can get all that stuff at the hardware store or got to parts wanted and get a factory one

Thanks, its too bad he isn't around. I don't have access to the tools to build a custom one, nor an actual one to reference. Seems like there are a lot of winches, but a serious shortage regarding the shift lever mechanism.

Would be nice if someone made a nice kit and sold them on the side....

Great job and photos, watergoblin.

Years ago, I had Marv at SOR round up some of the parts, including a linkage rod from an xfer case that was way too long (oops). I made the rest of the parts out of galvanized pipe nipples, and brazed a metric-threaded shaft into the home-made lever to accept the OEM shift knob. This is a great 'fab it yourself while standing in the plumbing aisle' type project. All I used was an electric drill to drill out the piping 'tee' that served as the lever mount and pivot point. It took some fiddling and adjusting, but it works like a champ.

I agree that there's a total lack of any factory or reman linkage parts for PTO winches - this was true 23 years ago when I did mine.
