Hello,

My power steering hose has a leak, as the alternator was touching it because of a loose alternator strap. I went to the dealer, and he tested also the cooling circuit with 12 psi, and the radiator hoose also failed... So I'm loosing cooling fluid and power steering fluid...

The dealer want 900$++ for the power steering hose, and I would like to find a non-OEM replacement (who would pay 900$ for a hose!?).

I can get them from NAPA but I don't know which one to get:

Any hydraulic hose shop will be able to make you a hose using the toyota ends. I just did this with my Tundra. $1000 hose fixed for under $30.

The link you posted is for the low pressure hose and any hose will do. It's the high pressure side that's expensive. There won't be non-OEM available. Check the yellow pages for a shop in your area (Goodall Rubber, Greenline are the two shops around these parts)


For the heater hose check the parts FAQ at the top of the page.

I might just take the one on my other truck...

I read that we could get a high pressure one in NAPA... Is that true?

Larry, our world runs with hydraulic hoses. They are everywhere as are the shops the service them. There are lots of hits on hydraulic hose repair for your area: sherbrooke quebec - Google Search
 
I changed my lower radiator hose last week, bought from Toyota. For the power steering hose, I'm sure a big rig shop or Diesel shop can help you with that.

Problem is that the truck is at the dealer right now, so I need to send him the part... I cannot unassemble it for the moment to take it to a shop, unless I tell them to wait until mid-May (I'm out of town...) It would be much easier to get the part from a shop and just give it to them.

If the radiator hose is cheap at the dealer, I might just get them from them...
 
tell them to push it out into the lot and deal with it when you get home.
 
Tell them you have just lost your job and there is no way you can pay the bill.They will drop it like a hot potato

I might just tell them to get and install:
the radiator hose
the 2 belts
the valve cover seal

And I'll deal with the power steering hose when I get home... What do you think?

I think you are about to throw away $300 -$400 when you could have done it yourself for about $50 with aftermarket parts.
Of course ,if you dont have time or the space to work on a vehicle,it leaves you little choice

Not sure about Quebec, but here in BC they will just put a lien against your vehicle. After 180 days after filing the lien and you still haven't paid the bill, they can then contact a bailiff to seize the vehicle and then sell your vehicle to recover the amount outstanding.
 
All that is a 2h job (probably less for some people). All that can be done in a parking lot with few tools and a pail. The only «bad» side of this job is the mess regarding flushing coolant.

Don't forget, rad hose job at the dealer = probably new coolant toyota fluid ($$)... then... there is NO Toyota diesel engine in Canada since 1987... not sure Toyota stock diesel coolant. Make sure they not fill you engine with «regular» coolant fluid.

I think thats standard procedure anywhere,but I was suggesting getting it back before they have touched it.
 
My God,what happened to all the metal lines between the box and the pump?

You should have cleaned everything down and watched the leak come back so you know precisely where it is leaking from.
Although ,I cant see a leak in the pic


That hose will tense up everytime you turn the wheel and wear a hole in itself .You need to find some kind of sheath and add it to the wear points.

I have myself that kind of hose for my BJ42 P/S. It seems well stable and move (tense) no at all when I turn the wheels.





... but you have sowed doubt in my mind. :(


EDIT : I fully understand what you say and that's probably a wise remark ... but what is the difference between this (our) hose(s) and the fully flexible hoses found on tractors and other heavy equipment?
