My dog fell out the window @ 35mph.

Arthritis may poke it's ugly head in a couple of years also..

Hope not..

our dog likes to ride standing with her front paws on the console and her back paws on the backseat...so if we were to wreck, she would projectile through the windshield. we bought what equates to a heavy duty harness and it has a belt that attaches to it and to the seatbelt in the backseat. it looks like it would work if we were in a wreck...hopefully we'll never have to find out.

Wayne – That’s another sobering story…. Thanks for sharing.
I’m defiantly going to be more careful.

i hope you didn't think i was pointing a finger at you,,,
i wasn't.
accidents do happen...

being stupid is another thing...

i know that i might get flamed for this but i too allow the big old brute to ride with his front paws on the console but he is leashed in to keep him from falling out the side... even if you had your dog in a kenel in the back in the case of an accident he could still end up with injuries...
the one sobering idea is that in the event of an accident you have the weight of your dog as a projectile...
but you have to calculate the risk involved.
the safest manouver would be to leave the pet at home but i just can't bring myself to do that...

Even though he looks fine and is acting fine, keep and eye on him.

Make sure he is going to the bathroom (#2) with no problems. He could still have a turned stomach.

Since they are very tough dogs he may be running around on a fractured leg as well.

I know a pit bull that cracked the front windshield once, and it wasn't even a sudden stop.

My dobergirl had a bone callus on her right front leg from breaking it and not telling anyone (no limping or whining, none-a-dat).

Glad your pup is okay. I've vet-teched on dogs who fell outta trucks, and it wasn't pretty.

mine did it at 50MPH!!!

I have a Newf/Aussie mix - the COOLEST dog I've ever known. He jumped out of our subaru at 50mph trying to get a deer on the side of the road. Same scenario...jumped, rolled a gah-jillion times, sat shaking on the side of the road. then....ran back to me, jumped in the car and chilled out. He had a small scrape on one of his legs. thats it. let's just say he only sticks his head out now.

We were lucky, for sure.
