My yellow lab, Stormy, died yesterday after he was hit by a car in front of our house. His spine was broken in two places and his heart was punctured. I got him to emergency before he died but there was nothing they could do. He was such a great, loving dog always ready to play or go for a ride. He'll be sorely missed.
Sorry for posting on the SC club board, but our dog was killed last year in front of our house in the same way. It hurts, and my heart goes out to you and your family. I had never really grieved for a pet before, but that hurt and still does. I don't know how your wife will take it, but mine was a mess for days afterward, and still has not really recovered. Hang in there.
Oh man, that just makes my heart tear! I had that happen to me when i was a kid; dog was standing next to the road and i saw him through my bedroom window, by the time i got out there he was in the road, i called for him, he turned to run to me and smash! I was devastated for weeks.
The pain, I'm sad to say never really goes away. My heart goes out to you.
They live on in our hearts forever. That's the good part. Hardly a day goes by
that I don't think about my lost pals from over the years. They still make me smile.
Search Mud for the Rainbow Bridge. I'd post it for you or a link, but I really
can't go there. It still hurts. Rainbow Bridge always seems to help. Even if
it brings tears.
God Bless you and your's.
Edit: After reading my post it seemed wrong to ask you to look at what I could not.
Sorry about that.
I had to go read it again. I'm glad I did. Misty eyes and all.
Rainbow Bridge:
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the "Rainbow Bridge" because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.
There is only one thing missing; they are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!
You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him/her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again, again, and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.
