Hey fellas,

I have a 2000 100 series. 108k miles. Completely stock. I had to replace a cat at 102 miles. I told the mechanic to do both since I plan on keeping the rig for a long time. Cost plenty. Anyway, I've noticed that they tick once they get warm. When I say tick, it's the sound that usually happens once you shut off the motor - it think it's heat dissipation - but it happens all the time, once the engine gets up to temp. I know the sound is normal, but I've never owned a rig that did it when it was running. The mechanic used genuine Toyota parts.

Anything to worry about?

I'm curious about this too - mine is louder and does it longer (after shutdown) than any car/truck I've had before. I can hear it while driving as well.

Not sure if this is normal or not.

My kitties are quiet until shutdown.

Out of curiosity, what caused the failure. This is the first LC/LX I've heard needing a replacement cat. Bad fuel?

X2, I'm curious as well. 136K on my '00, original exhaust as far as I can tell.

Mine ticks as well, starts after about a mile or so of driving. I have an 04. I went to 2 mechanics and they said it was fine, they didn't even look at it. Perhaps it's just a bigger cat? Anyone??

Edit: I don't notice mine until the car is stopped, but I don't have to drive far for it to happen.

Mine are quiet while driving, but tick like crazy when you park it and cut the engine.

Same here.

Failure diagnosed when I noticed a loss of power when accelerating, bad fuel mileage, then check engine light and the code showed up. Mechanic disconnected the cat (which had the ol clamp temporary repair done to the shields) and it ran fine. Only one failed, but I had both done. He insisted on using Toyota parts. I'm glad he did - if there is a problem, I'm gonna insist they be replaced.

Only reason I sprung for both was that the truck looks and runs like new – people can’t believe it’s 11 years old. Tows the boat like a champ. Goes thru snow like a tank.

Yeah, this happened to me. Just get a garbage bag and some cement blocks....Oh wait, different kind of cats. Nevermind.

If your house cats are "ticking", then you have a breed I've never heard of...
