So he was car shopping with a lady friend when he sees a cruiser that looks sooo clean. He takes it for a spin checks under the hood and quickly calls me up...
But, I took the day off from my phone that day. I get a mesg the next day that said you weren't there to help me so I passed on the Cruiser and bought a 75 HEEP. :censor::censor::censor::censor:
He was just pulling my leg so I guess I will be cruising by to look at a 94' with 120K miles.
I know 94' is the weird year where things changed like the trans, the OBDI & II. I think the dash changed too, could some of you guys with a 94' or those of you who keep up on all that stuff give me the necessary pointers and codes. THANKS.....

That's 95...

What kind of pointers are you looking for? 94 doesn't have airbags if he's into that kind of thing.

Really? I thought it was late 94 when all that stuff was changing. Shows that I just purged all that info after I bought my Cruiser....
So then 94 still has the old dash, it's not OBDII compliant, but it does have the better of the two trans correct? I doubt he cares about the air bag but I will bring it up to him. He is a single guy and this will be a toy so not his daily driver

Yeah 95 was the transition year. Not sure, but I have heard they were all OBDII (I did a thread about this a while back - you can search for it). Not sure, but I vaguely remember something about only the DS airbag in 95, don't quote me on this.

The 94 has the old dash, OBDI, and has the A442 tranny. The 95 got the A343 tranny, although I have heard reports of very early 95s getting the A442. Which one is better really depends on who you ask. There are arguments both ways....

There some good reading here also:

and of course here:

80-series FAQ

Yep 95 was the weird year, some consider 94 to be the best year because of the tranny some consider 97 the best year because of OBDII and being the last year with SFA.

He can't go wrong he's getting a Cruiser!

94's rock! OBDI, no airbags, etc. I'm biased of course! :D

True dat.

However, a '97 is the best year. :hillbilly:

Is this the same buddy that was at the Turkey run with the Colorado that was pulled out by a Cruiser?

Nope, that buddy is ready to play in the Colorado again and has a new rear bumper for it.

This buddy has been with me on two trips without other Land Cruisers and he went with me to the Baja 250 in March. He kept saying he wanted a 4x4 after the first trip with me right after I got my Cruiser but he always said a 4 Runner or a Heep would work for him. He was not buying into the whole Heep Vs. Toyota logic I tried to explain to him. But I guess seeing this cruiser so clean and taking it for a ride he just buy step up with a Cruiser... He is looking to spend less than 8K and this one was just marked down to 7,700.

I believe it has been scientifically proven that the '94 was the best year. ;)

I saw this 95 on Craigs list 1995 Toyota Land Cruiser

A little more than your buddy wanted to spend but it looks to be set up with some important mods and prices are always negotiable.

Who's Lance?

Obviously a MUD member: "Landtank template for Slee Castor bushings"

Well, I check out the Cruiser. It was pretty clean. Starting with the exterior it had some corrosion on the mirrors and on the rear spoiler leading me to believe it was a vehicle near the ocean. Mine has some corrosion on the mirrors as well so not spotting anything anywhere else it's not a huge deal. It appeared that the flares had been replaced since they were a different shade and they had white gaskets on them. No roof rack, so that's a bonus and strangely chrome LX style wheels.
The interior was no frills; cloth no leather or wood trim, manual seats, and the shorter center console without the top storage area. No lockers :( and a cloth head liner.
Engine; It started with a high idle, but eventually came down to 1,100. Cranked the AC and the idle adjusted as it should but then when I turned the AC off and the idle took a huge dive and didn't seem to correct itself, so there would be some idle issues in my opinion. Under the hood it looked really good obviously a very good steam clean but there were no cracks in the intake, a metal radiator with green coolant. I did notice a slight exhaust leak right where it attaches to the head exactly what I just had fixed on my rig. And it appeared to have a typical gasket leak probably the rear main seal. But that is pretty much par for the course on these trucks.
So I think that's about it.

*Edited* Oh and it had a blue clutch fan hub.

There is actually a 97 on Auto Trader with 155K miles for $3K. Something has to be wrong with it but I could not get through to the owner on the number provided. The only thing wrong visually in the pics was some clear coat peel on the passenger side doors. Kind of an odd place for it to peal don't you think?

shiiiiiaaaat. 97 w/155k for $3k? locked?

I agree...something has to be wrong.

could it be just the gas prices, that's definitely wrong
