After reading through the various threads here for improving the factory stereo, I've come to the conclusion that ditching the factory amp and headunit are the best way to go. I'm not sure how others hookup an ipod to the factory system but I've been using one of those cassette thingys and I go through one about every 6 months. I want bluetooth, USB and a better sounding system.

I spent about $600 on the following components and bought most the stuff off eBay. To work around the facoty amp wiring I plan to just run new thicker gauge wire into the doors up to the new Alpine Power Pack which will be tucked up under the dash somewhere. I picked up some speaker wire and an 8 guage amp kit from Wal-Mart and most of the components showed up last week. I'm hoping to get it all installed on Tuesday and will update this thread with some pics.

Headunit:
ALPINE CDE-133BT

Head Unit Power Pack:
Alpine KTP-445

Front Door Speakers:
Alpine SPS-610C

Rear Door Speakers:
Alpine SPS-610

Subwoofer:
Rockford Fosgate R300-12

While everything is apart I'm going to do a little sound deadening with some Peel & Seal from Lowes. Mainly behind the door speakers and in the rear wheel wells and floor.

Cool. Please send some install updates w/pics.

Great - about to go through the same process. Look forward to your install pics.

I had some fatmat rattle trap which is 80 mil thick. It sis acheaper version of dynamat. I used it for my doors when I changed out speakers. I had a little left over and started doing the rear floor and wheel wells. I ran out though. Picked up some of the peel and seal. It is very thin. I thinking would take 3-4 layers to get the thickness of the fatmat. Did you notice any improvement with the peel and seal? I bought 3 rolls thinking I would at least double it up. Also, did it have any odor after install?

I installed a Pioneer AVH-P3400BT tonight and the sound through the stock amp and stock speakers is much improved. I plan on continuing the upgrade as I go with speakers being the next step. Parking brake override is on the way so I can use Motion X as my gps.

Was this enough to do the entire rear cargo area with the wheel wells?

Yes. I did the whole rear floor, wheel wells, side walls and lower tail gate. I have a tad left over but not enough to do doors.... another 50 should be more than enough for that.

Thanks. I have done one of the wheels wells with the 80 Mil stuff called Rattle Trap but ran out. Glad to know 50 square feet is enough to do the rest of the rear cargo area.

ckkone, so how did you install go? Didn't update us.
