Quick question for the LX guy's out there. The right rear mud guard is hanging on by a shatty looking string. One of the cosmetic things my LX needs squared away.

I've talked to CDan about parts needed to fix this and he referred me to Lexus. I contacted my local Lexus dealer and the counter dude was surprised people were still buying parts for a truck that old. Asked me twice for the model number.

My question is this. Does Lexus make the "tab" I need attach the mud guard to the fender flare? The screw and c-clip (grommet) is in place but the tab which extends from the guard is missing.

I'd rather not have to buy a whole new mud guard. I considered taking the mudguards off but can't quite visualize how the truck would look with that much fender flare missing without a wazoo rear bumper. Ideally, I'll get this thing properly attached and trim the black rubber down for a cleaner look.

Pics can be seen at Mud Guard issue

Thanks in advance for help on this one. A 'MUDSearch didn't answer my question.

take the picture to your local Toyota or Lexus counterman and look at the computer catalog pics with him. Toyota has the same clips but not sure if you can get them seperate.

Good Call

I did just that today at Rosner Toyota. The parts, 9015960416 (screw) and 9018906196 (grommet) don't reflect the tab that runs from the mud guard up to the grommet and screw.

I'm thinking it is built into the mud guard and the plastic piece broke off. If any LX owners have their rear mud guards laying around a quick peek would steer me right.

The Lexus dealer is 40 or so miles away and over the phone I was told new mud guards were needed.

your mounting tab is sheared off. I did this to mine last year at the Toyota Jamboree - left the mudflaps on and tried to back up a rock ledge - mudflap got caught between the tire and the rock and ripped it right off.
-3M makes some plastic repair material to fab up a new tab. Or try the classifieds.

What side is it? I may still have my extra one in the attic if it's the correct side.

Thanks for the info. It is the right rear. I'm assuming I can't buy a part to fix this, it's gonna have to be fab'd up?

Big Thanks

Corn Man, thanks for looking out. Done. If nothing else I can cannibalize that one to make mine fasten right. That tab is definitely the achilles heal in the flap design.

This MUD forum is awesome

I feel your pain as I backed into a snow bank with mine and messed up my RH rear flap too...lucky for me I just bent the tab, and the plastic it slots in was still intact.

I took mine off and the tab is long gone. The slot it threads through looks good to go. A bit of snip from the donor part and epoxy on mine and done.

I never got around to pricing the OEM guards but I'm sure they were $$$ and needed paint.

I was looking at taking off the running boards and getting front flaps and Cdan quoted $125 ea. (painted) so it would probably be at least that. If paint matches, just replace it.

I checked with the Lexus dealer a few weeks ago with the very same problem (mine have corroded away). I was told they don't sell the tab. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I also learned my lesson last year, and now remove my mud flaps when going off-roading after losing my front right one on a trail. The replacement from the dealer was CAN$130.00:eek:!

What is the tab made of?

If it is metal, just get a piece of universal bracket and glue it into the slot...
