Has anyone installed the MSD Offroad Igniton on their 60? Is it worth the $200? I am thinking of going with just a blaster 2 coil. I have a old jacobs coil but want to get rid of it cause it takes too much space.

What Jacob's do you have. If you already have a good upgrade, the $200 won't be worth it. When I did mine, I chose the Jacob's over the Blaster. Can't remember why, but I must have had a good reason. Make sure you upgrade to some good high performance wires too if you do it.

Staywith the Jacobs or I will buy it from you. I have the MSD 6A with the off road mounts, off road coil and I made cuatom wires. Been running it for about 25K on my 62 with no issues. Not exactly sure how much better it does but it does do better.
I have an Accel setup, complete with rev-limiter, coil, & tach adapter with less than 2K mi off my '83 FJ60, if you're interested. Worked great. Put it back to stock 'cause it's for sale (my Vortec 350 '84 is finally done, for about the 10th time).
Not sure why your coil would take up so much room. I have old Mallorys & they're big, but not too big to run on my old Porsches.
What brand of plugs do you run with yours and what gap? I have been running cheap Autolites cause I think that is what Jacobs said to run. I have people ask me if I have a diesel cause it sounds like one.

Right now, Bosch Platnium, single tip. I was talking to a mechanic a while back, and told him what I was running, and said with the kind of voltage the Ultra puts out, I really should be running Iridium....and I think he is right, it will last much longer. I just haven't done it yet because my Bosch are only 7k miles or so old. If I had to do it over, I would probably get the NGK Platnium, single tip if I don't get the Iridium.
Last year I bought the MSD Offroad w/tach adapter (you will need one-it's another $30 or so). It worked for 2 months, and began to make a loud vibrating/sparking/mechanical noise from the unit itself, so loud that it could be heard even over the roadnoise of my noisy 83 60-very loud indeed.
I called tech support and they stated "it's normal" for the unit to be so noisy and that there's nothing wrong. The tech support dope even tried to tell me how the one on his ride is noisy too and his girlfriend complained.
Gee, that was the *exact* setup I was thinking about running. I check with my mechanic, the dude I take my Cruiser to when I'm in over my head.
Here was his reply:
"MSD boxes sometimes do make very loud noise. Sometimes they do get so loud that you can hear it inside the truck with the engine running and the radio on. It's normal. They were not BSing him. "
His other comment was the MSD 6T, was for very serious offroad use. All out commercially sponsored offroad racing.
Looks like I am just going to stay with my Omni coil and try and find another place for my ARB compressor. When I installed my coil like 7 yrs. ago the guy from Jacobs said they recommend just cheap Autolites plugs.
Oh I'm sure they meant it when they said it was "normal"-the problem is, only 'some' do it and others do not, there isn't any clear standard which does nothing to develop confidence in the product itself let alone the company.
What the parameter for 'some' means is the key-either they *all* don't make noise loud enough to be heard over the road noise of a Landcruiser and that's normal, or the ones that do make that level of noise aren't the norm so they must be abnormal and.....bad. They specifically said however that this level of noise was 'normal' while not speaking of why it didn't make that noise for the first couple of months it was installed, or why other don't make that noise at all.
That's the BS of it all. Nor can I trust items that clearly aren't behaving well or even like others of like make and model.
I specifically bought the 6T (Offroad) version because of the further isolation of the internals via the anti-vibration gunk they seal it with (over the 'regular' MSD6-that's the difference between the two) along with the rubber mounting hardware.
The only thing that remains in my '60 out of all the MSD I bought and installed is the offroad coil-and that only becuase the stock coil bolts got stripped. If someone wants to take their chance, I'll sell my not-being-used, noisy-but-okay-per-MSD6T and the tach adapter at a good price-make an offer.
