Window sticker states 17 city and 21 highway.

Actual mileage from my FJ.

1st tank = 16.2 mpg, 90% city, 10% hwy
2nd tank = 16.5 mpg, 90% city, 10% hwy
3rd tank = 18.2 mpg, 50% city, 50% hwy

Getting 18, 50/50 driving. Even pushing those wider tires

It's funny to hear the words "miles per gallon" and " FJ" together. It's like hearing " Smart Blonde" or "Good Jeep" or " Military Intelligence" etc. My FJ sucks gas bad. but who cares. I'm going to die someday anyway!

Just drove back from Las Vegas <see post about the road trip and wheeling pics>...
My first tank actually got 19 mpg, but I was in 6th gear and didn't stop once, second tank 17, then 15, but was getting off and on the road every time the wife spotted an indian trading post/souviner shop

FJ mpg

All my mileage has been approx. 90% city, 10% highway. I'm getting over 18 mpg, running premium. No problems so far, except a noise (grrrrrrrck) when pulling the inside driver's side front door handle. Everything else is great.

on my first 600 miles I'm averaging about 18 MPG. 400 strait highway miles gave me about 20MPG running 75mph the whole way.

Once I finally pried my eyes from your avitar and read your comment I realized just how bad my Land Rover has been for fuel economy... I actually purchased an FJC due to the significantly better gas mileage. Yikes!! In the Discovery I'm getting (using US gal.) around 12 mpg. :o

My speedometer hasn't worked in the 40 for about 10 years now. I guess I get about 10 MPG. I can't drive the freeway to work due to the limited speed I can attain with my 3 speed. I drive side streets and a lot of stop & go. It is old and not intended to be a daily long-distance driver. My work commute is 35 miles RT. Not too long. I do take a bite in my DD though. I drive a 1994 Chevy silverado with a 400 Horsepower aftermarket Vortec 5.7 litre It gets about the same gas mileage as the 40 but is very powerful and fast.

The 3-speed has the same 1-1 top gear that the 4-speed has.
Maybe you have other issues that are keeping it back.
Any one of my 40's was usually able to cruise 55-60 no problem.

That milage is WEAK! I get the same milage in my 40 year old FJ40 with the original drivetrain! Wheres the hybrid option at?
