hey my truck took a dip in the fraser river, 3vze drained oil and changed coolant out. pulled plugs turned over and watched water come out. everytime we put the plugs back in and turn over, then pull the plugs back out and turn over more water comes out, like it sucks water out of the head. need any info guys the engine was under for at least 24 hrs. i pulled the egr off to the intake but not sure if there is any tricks to getting water out of the intake. we took out the ecm relay hoping that when we turned over no fuel would be pumped in the cylinders, not sure if it worked though as plenty of fuel was still being thrown in there.

Howdy! I have no experience with this, but I would pull the coil wire, replace the plugs, and crank it over about a zillion times. Suck all the water out of the intake. Then pull the plugs and see how it looks. If it doesn't look to bad, try to fire it up. I would also do a couple of quick oil changes on it after it runs a little. Just me. John

It sounds like the whole upper plenum & intake got filled. Water is going to be in everything. I overlooked my VSV's after an unplanned swim, one of them rusted shut. Lots of PM ahead!

what's a vsv? i like the idea about the shop vac though

VSV=Vacuum Switching Valve. I think there are two axle ADD, three emmisions and one AC idle up VSV. They should all be on the right side of the engine bay. There's a lot of time sensitive stuff to take care of first that's already mentioned above. The VSV's can wait, just don't let them sit wet for weeks.

did you try to start it before you drained it. was it running under water for any length of time (after water entered the air inlet). check to see if antifreeze is what is comming out of your cylinders if not then dry it out and go wheeling. following the above advice.

so got engine running, the timing belt jumped a couple of teeth on the belt so we fixed that problem. now we got it to run but idles like s***, been playing with the air volume meter thing on top of the air cleaner. when it's open it runs pretty good then unplug it and it runs awesome then dies. we took it apart tried to free it up cuz the flapper door on it is sticky. also we destroyed it where the wires hook up to it,so it's getting replaced tommorow regardless, fingers crossed it works.

Not that it matters anymore, but cycling an engine with water in it is asking to bend valves, connecting rods, rings, yatta yatta yatta. Hense the removal of the spark plug while cranking part.

I think that if your just talking about some water in the plenum making its way into the cylinder your fine, but certainly if you drown the truck and the cylinder is full of water you will cause damage turning over the engine without some place for the water to exit.

:hhmm: fyi

runnin now

got her runnin now changed the air volume meter on top of the air box and started idling nice. changed my tranny and transfer case oil totally contaminated but suprisingly the frt diff was clean. pretty happy to be drivin again thanks everyone ttyl.

motor pissed off

so i drove the truck yesterday a bit all was well and then today it won't let me rev past about 2 thousand rpm, everytime it goes past it just bogs down. was wondering if water in the fuel system would do that. I always thought the fuel system was a closed system. im not sure how to troubleshoot this.

Check the charcoal canister.

Is there any way water could have gotten into the tank while it was in in the drink?

motor pissed off

no way water got in the tank only the frt end was in. but i will try the charcoal canister thx.

2 thousand rpm blues

so i put methyl hydrate and injector cleaner in truck no difference, still only revs to 2 thousand rpm then just makes a air sucking noise, not sure if this is water in fuel or a throttle sensor anyone had this problem?

Have you checked the ECU for any codes?

Maybe a new fuel filter... (be prepared to take a bath in gasoline)

vacuum leak?

I wouldn't trust the fuel. swap it out and see if it makes a difference. you said the vehicle was under for 24hrs. that would be enough time for water to make its way in.

tank drained

so i drained the fuel tank a little bit of water in there, put new stuff in and changed the fuel filter too, it seems to happen intermitently i drove around for about 15 min all was well but then it came back. my plug wires were a little melted put tape on them but one spark plug seems to be arcing, changed the one plug and it still does it. when i turn the ign to on i don't get the audible click from my main relay. will check the codes tommorow i think its e1 and t1 correct me if im wrong. also wouldn't the check eng light come on?

finally fixed

turns out it was the throttle pos. sensor re and re'd it good to go learned a bit about my truck so in the end it was all good thx to all who replied. peace.
