more power for my 92!!

hey everyone like i said in my last post i am new to the forum and i have a 92 lc with about 177k on the already very slow and underpowered engine. any tips or tricks (besides a trd supercharger) that is fairly inexpensive that will help gain horsepower?? thanks again for any advice :cheers:
 
some folks have installed bicycle pedals on the passenger side wheelwell, connected to the driveshaft, and reported major acceleration improvements when having the kids pedal along on the freeway...

92 - you'll quickly learn we abuse everyone around here. If you want/need more power, other than regearing, there isn't much of an option that makes sense $wise. It's a tractor motor, but a darn fine one and it should last for a long time.
 
I own a 91, I did a ignition tune up, adjusted valves, got the super thick soup out of my front axle, air filter, etc. It feels stronger, I get pretty good MPG, but I have only owned my truck for a short while so I am sure some one with more experiance could help more ;p
I'm used to underpowered, so the 3FE feels fine to me. Besides up here driving over 65 is asking to volintarily pay more in taxes.

Move to Baja Mexico...the 3fe is perfectly suited for cruising at 30-50 mph (40-80 kph). We're just to darn fast paced here in the US...

My 80 is more peppy at 1500 feet, rather than where I live at 7700 feet. Otherwise, I've found that removing the roof rack and gear (Approx. 400 lbs) makes a big difference in gas mileage and acceleration. In your other post, you mention going to 33s...if you're very concerned about speed, I'd stick with the stock 31s...

However, Junk hit the nail on the head...the 91-92s were never very fast. I've gotten to where I just kick back with some good tunes/company and enjoy the trip.

Here is a sure fire way to do what you want:

1. Jack up radiator cap

2. Drive a 93 - 97 Land Cruiser underneath

3. Lower radiator cap

join the 3FE engine discussion board on Yahoo for more info on these, or even the 60 series board here since the 62 has same motor. The 3FE folk recommend changing the Fuel pump regulator (or FPR as they like to call it to confound your searches) on all high mileage vehicles. It's a 1.5 banana job requiring that you own a 12mm ratchet, a 12mm spanner and a torque wrench. I just did it on my 150k 91 and by jove they are right. It is definitely peppier!!

also, clean your throttle body, replace your air filter, and make sure all your vacuum hoses are clear and replace warn ones. I would also update the plugs, leads, cap and rotor with new OEM. although it made v. little difference with mine, it often makes a dramatic difference on high mileage vehicles. Also, replace all the fluids in the diffs and transfer case, and lube the drives shafts (without overdoing it). Oh and adjust the valves if it has not been done lately.

The 3fze isn't all that great for speed either. But it's got a nice hairy set of off-road ballz.

I bet I can beat Junk in a race. Of course, I will cheat and hit him right out of the gate, jarring loose his head gasket and PHH causing immediate overheating and ensuring my victory!

of course, I would have to hit him early lest he have enough speed built up to coast in while overheating, still beating my best time.

Actually, I'm a huge fan of the 3fe. When the motor dies on my lawn tractor maybe I'll toss one it :flipoff2:

We all know the only reason why the 3fe ended up in the 80 is because Toyota didn't have the 1FZ-FE ready when it was supposed to be. That said, the 3fe is a fine motor. Not built for speed but will last forever (of course it's driven by grandmas, so what wouldn't last forever ;) .
