Ken - tentative yes depending on your departure times. I'll have been on vacation the week of 9.12-9.19 with the last two days canoeing over near Needles.

I would love to make every effort to do this. Think we could get away with planting a 2nd tree somewhere up in the meadows in memory of Dana?

I am going to try to leave early, but can either meet people at the Ranger station or talk them in over HAM radio, but I would need to know the time people are arriving.

There are a lot of trees up there and I am not sure how we would get one up there and ensure it lives. There are 6 trees planted at Griffith Park in memory of Dana, the dedication is being held the previous weekend.

One question is whether to try to get the same campsite as last year or to try to get the end spot (which is what we were going to try to get this year). That is one of the reasons why I am thinking of going up there early.

That end site was sweet, but where we were or even where the folks with the trailers were just on the other side of the river would be fine. All far, far away from civilization!

Were you with us when we 'tested' range from the ranger station back to E9999 (Eric) via ham. Receiption was ok to spotty at best between those two locations. We actually had better receiption after passing thru the little town.

Yes, I was listening to the test. We only had a handheld, so we could only listen to your side.

I think that the other side of the river is quieter, so I would prefer to stay on that side. I also would like to stick to where we stayed before or where Dana and I talked about trying to get this year. Perhaps a bit silly, but ...

I now have a mobile radio, so further distance will be possible,

Not silly at all Ken - I completely agree for the exact same reasons.

If you are thinking of going, please let me know so I can get an idea of how many people and what works best for everyone.

Also, let me know if you have a HAM radio (what bands would be helpful as well) or a CB radio. If you have a HAM radio, it might be possible to use a linked repeater system to communicate on the drive up (Winsystem). We might even be able to hit the repeaters from up there.

Right now, I do plan on coming Ken. I have both ham and CB. Simplex or adopted landcruiser 146.46 frequency. I do have the Kern County repeaters listed on TASMA programed into memory on my ham.

Would like to come up Friday, but we'll see.

Thanks, I knew you are planning on going, but I am hoping others will also let me know.

i'd like to get info on the tree dedication and also would like an itinerary for the trip up to the meadows.

you can email me off line if you'd like.
thanks.

The tree dedication will be at Griffith Park, near the merry-go-round, but that is all I know at this time. I will post more as I get it.

The plan for Monache Meadows is to meet at the Blackrock Ranger Station at noon. Most likely I will arrive earlier, so if you want to drive in before that, you can. I will be trying to listen to the radio (HAM & CB). If you let me know when you will be arriving, either before or after that, then we can make arrangements. I forget how long it takes to get into where we plan to be.

After that, we will explore the area on Sat. Some might want to do the Sherman Jeep trail (make sure you have plenty of fuel). On Sunday, people can leave when they want. Most likely I will leave around 10am or so.

Noon Friday or Saturday Ken?

Friday, unless you want it to be Saturday :-). The trip is listed as Sept. 24-26, so that tends to mean that we need to meet on the first day.

I don't have any problems with people arriving on Saturday, other than I would like to know the approximate time and what radio communications they have. If the person has been there before and does not have a problem with meeting at the camp, that is also ok.

If there are some people who want to do the Sherman Jeep trail and some people are coming on Sat., then it would be nice to have a meeting time at either the trailhead or the Ranger station.

BTW, bringing firewood would also be a good idea. I don't have a roof rack and Dana collected the wood last year.

Realized Friday give the dates too...after I'd logged off.

Dana collected the wood from on top of my cruiser rack! :D There's tons of it free outside my golf club.

Well, if possible it might be an idea to collect it and distribute it for the trip.

SHHHH! it's a secret remember :flipoff2:

Joking aside.. there's still wood there???

More than you can imagine. I did speak with the course superintendent and he said let them all know - he wants it gone! Of course it's pretty much limited to those of us here in SoCal close enough to take advantage of it!!!

I may speak with him about letting our Boy Scout district troops know as well.

That huge stack you saw is still there and there's at least that or more stacked back in the maintenance yard that only members can access. The stuff out front is first come first serve. Rent a truck and come get more!

For those interested - El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Niguel on Clubhouse and Crown Valley Parkway.

Course Maintenance has cut wood into fireplace size logs from trees that they've removed from the course. It's sitting out at the end of our parking lot for the taking. PLEASE TAKE IT!!!

Dang, i figured it would have been long gone... and um.. yeah.. the whole point for them to put it out there is so people take it... i figured that from the beginning...

I still have my stock.. thanks Brent :D

Anyone else interested in this trip?
