I saw these on Shark Tank the other night and I thought that they would help someone here?

I don't have any connection with this product or even own this product, just passing the information along.

Rightline Gear Moki Door Step

I’m curious if it puts too much strain on those door strikers? Imagine a 300lb guy stepping on that. I don’t know if that was designed to hold that kinda load from from the top.

That is the same thing that I told my GF yesterday but, if I used my roof rack, I would try them.

Just bought the $13 Amazon version and it's very nice. Makes getting to the rack MUCH easier. As for the strength of the striker....I'm only 168lbs and have had zero issues on either the front door or rear door strikers over the past month of usage. I would imagine that the door striker is designed to handle significant load since it's part of the crash structure.

They said on Shark Tank that the stricker is designed for 2,000 pounds of strength in a straight pull. But, who knows what they can handle like this?

My dad welded one up. I'll get pics at lunch.

I was thinking the same thing with the striker. Not sure what kind of support the striker has behind the sheet metal, I just hope I don't have to use it enough to see what happens over time.

I would trust the Amazon one with my flyweight wife on it, but no way would I trust it with me on it. The amazon one is putting all the twist down into the door latch and sheetmetal around it.

Moki is a much better design because most of the force is pulling straight out on the latch instead of down at an angle, the downward force is being distributed across a wide area on the lower jam.

I would consider a Moki once I get my roof basket installed.

The issue I have with the Moki is that, although the pull on the striker is much more linear, the fulcrum is on the sheet metal below, and that is a point load, not uniformly distributed. It could be six in one, half dozen in the other but my bet is on the striker being able to take on some bending stress versus the sheet metal. It's designed to keep the doors closed in case of a side impact, roll over, etc. I'm only 145 lbs though, so YMMV.
