Yeah yeah. I've grown accustomed to having them around.

I'd love to pick up the rear in my s***ty 'ole 55, but I'll be in Cabo that week

Boogers, I guess that means I'll picking up the rear in my 60 if we make it... and it's running well enough (if not I'd have to use the H3 back up 4X4).

At least the H3 isn't the primary so I'll let it slide.

I've had a super sick kiddo at home this week so I haven't had a chance to sit down and get more details together. I like the suggestions that have been given. I'll have some more info next week on side trips and camping spots.

Did that trip last September, very hot high 90'@ most of the time. Only thing we missed was hole in the wall w/ring hike. BTW- we stayed up in Caurthers (sp) canyon first night, very cool place. Wish I could make it, but already taking time off in late Oct for a Death Valley trip.
Have a great time. Next time I hit mojave road, planning on doing it over two days on a moto.

Yeah it seems like Oct. could be a bit of a gamble on temperatures. The National Park Service weather page for the park shows a significant drop in average temps in October

Operating Hours & Seasons - Mojave National Preserve

It is the only time I have to do this trip so I am just going to have to deal with whatever weather mother nature decides to throw my way.

Looks like I officially out. Finally talked with the wife and she reminded me we have another camping trip with friends that weekend.

Sent from my phone using IH8MUD

This seems like a do able trip I was thinking of doing it in dec? Oct might be a little too hot for my youngest ... We will be checking in

Marked the dates on the calendar, should be able to join you. The mojave road is a favorite trip of mine. Great scenery and I drove it from hole in the wall campground to Afton canyon when I first got my 100 series. Bone stock, with the factory tires no issues..

Very interested in doing this. We've had this on the list to do either this fall or in the spring, but going with a group of fellow Mud members would be a lot of fun.

I will start working on the time off, and of course approval from the wife.

I think with more than 6 people we have to have a permit and there may be some camping rules. I need to look into it. I'll get the permit if I have to.

Link to permits

Groups of at least 7 vehicles or 15 participants for common recreational activities (rock climbing, hunting, fishing or trapping, equestrian use, bicycling, street-legal motorcycle or all-terrain vehicle use, backcountry use and roadside vehicle camping).
Application Fee: $5o

I would like to tag along if its ok. I have an 85 4Runner. I wanted to plan a trip in March for spring new growth. This could be a nice pre run.
May want to get a commitment list before you spend the $50 on a group permit.

I was just about to ask for a head count. A lot of people have expressed interest. If you are dead set on going please send me an email at:

paulbgardner at gmail.com

I'd like to get a better feel of those who are in 100% so I can figure out permits if necessary. Don't send me an email if you are on the fence about coming on the trip.

Bluetribal - Thanks for all the pics! I've been going out to the Mojave desert for over 15 years and still haven't hit all those sites. I'm going in late October and am going to hit some of those places.

For those of you who have never been, you're in for a treat! I've been out there in October when the ground is covered in wildflowers. It's always different, but it's always beautiful. Good luck!
