OK, I have had my HDJ-80 for almost two years now. Rig starts without any issue, however, upon shut down there is a sort of shake. Is this normal, as the factory starter is a gear reduction(?). Is there a resolution for this, I can live with it, but it is a wonder.

1HD-T has no throttle butterfly (diesels don't need them, fuel controls revs), so it will shake on shut down. Some engines do have throttle butterflys solely for the purpose of smoothing shut down, but lots of guys take them out.

There is about 4 times the compression in a diesel, so they can shake a bit. It all depends on how bad it is. A video of your shut down might determine if its anything abnormal

I will say that new motor and transmission mounts settled down my shutdown shake a bit. Maybe they're worn?

Check your engine mounts.

Totally normal, now if you are hearing rattles or feel more vibration I would say exhaust or engine/trans mounts.
