My guess and belief is they will not obsolete 4G, not at least for a long time, 10 years or so? because there are too many phones still on that frequency.
So yeah, you won't have to won't have to upgrade your cell booster hardware right away, but you also won't be getting the latest & greatest in speed either.
But does it really matter? I can still stream movies from Hulu, Amazon, Disney, Netflix and anything else on my phone right now. Anyways, don't we overland to get away from all that media??? I kind of feel that the whole purpose of a cell booster is more for emergency and important issues, e.g. accident, breakdown, job/work, in touch with family and friends if there's something important happening, and maybe the mobile app for home security cameras, etc.

^ 100% this.

Not really. I spend time outdoors to enjoy myself, not necessarily to deprive myself or luxury or comfort. If you really want to get away from all the media, just leave the cell phone at home. Most people wouldn't even consider doing that. They want the option of connecting to the outside world, but for some reason having a cell phone is acceptable, but having a booster is crossing the line in their mind. One thing I noticed when I had the antenna on my car, is that there are 2 types of people that want to talk about it. The first are people who are curious what it is, and if it really works, and are interested in getting one. The second are the people that want to define what "real" camping is, and how I'm doing it wrong and proceed to tell me how "they" do it.

No matter how much we think we're rugged individuals for having a 4x4 and going off-road, the reality is almost everyone still has obligations and responsibilities to take care of, and a lot of times that means being connected. I have the choice of staying at home at my desk to work, or getting a cell booster that allows to send out a few e-mails then spend the rest of the week in places like this camping, hiking and exploring.

Also, if you're relying on a cell booster in an emergency, I think that's a mistake. For that purpose you would be better off getting a SPOT or Garmin Inreach satellite beacon. The cell booster is exactly what it said, boosting cell reception, but it is not an emergency communication tool.

Any new information, experiences or recommendations on a signal booster antenna system for overlanding?

Thanks
