The 60 is bleeding :frown: Good excuse to upgrade to full-float. Not a great place for working on the rig.

Exit out of Kane Creek. Is this a Toyota event? 3rd run, Hells Revenge.

More of Hells Revenge. Woody directs the recovery effort.

A few more pictures from our trip out to Moab.

A breakdown is just an opportunity to upgrade!!

Full Floater here we come!!

The axle breaker is under Mark's truck in the bottom picture. Doesn't look so tough in the picture. The axle snap was loud; sounded like a rifle crack.

Sweet pics. Love the clarity of our site in Valley of the Gods you took from above the camp. We will absolutely need to do it again next year!

Glad you were able to get the rear axle repaired to get home. I agree with the Utah speed limits! Cussed the PRK royally when I hit the state line and had to slow down! Painful!

The group consensus was there must have been some sort of prior fatigue or stress failure (everyone that stopped along the trail gave us their opinion and suggestions, most of which were very helpful). This was not a difficult section of the trail.

.

No bounce involved. Just a slow crawl up a rock. I had s bit of trouble getting over the rock and repositioned a couple of times. No uncontrolled skinny peddle. I did have the locker on.

I have been over way tougher rocks and waterfalls. I was surprised at the break. And you are right, the size of a rear 60 axle is massive.

Jerry,
Great pictures! The Monument Valley pic is awesome......
Sorry to see the 60 lost an axle-

Chris

Yeah, but after leaving the truck on the trail for two days and one night (unlocked because the high-lifts leaned into the cab to keep it on the trail – so the doors were wide open) and driving to Grand Junction to get a bearing, full float will provide some peace-of-mind, even tho it is likely a one-off failure.
