FJ25 started in 1955 not 1958.

Come how about a little help. Woody is going to close the section down if it gets any slower:bang:

Its the single barrel carbs that make us slower.
I
m working on Cruisers, too bad they all have 1FZ-FE's in em and 4 doors. But it does have that cool rotary switch that does amazing things!

"looked enough like the Willys Jeep to be considered a copy right infringement in the USA"

no it was totally because of the name 'Jeep'...the copyright infringement had nothing to do with the fact that it was a close resemblence (however they probably were upset at these Japs copyed it) Toyota was using the 'Jeep' name

"Toyoda family consulted what might considered in the USA as a fortune teller"

 they did?

The number of strokes to write toyota is eight...it's a common thought in japan that eight is a lucky number...just as in the usa its common knowledge that 13 is unlucky...i don't think people consult with a fortune teller to let them know that

"automobile department of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works began small-scale production "

Toyota motor company was not a department of TALW...it was a seporant entity at that point..1933 and 34 you may have considered it...not the 1950's

They started small scale production because General MacArthur limited Toyota to renewing automobiles and repair automobiles and parts ... they were not granted permits to build new till 1947 and building new was limited to necesities for the rebuilding.

Probably not the right place to post this, and I do not know if others will consider it miss information, but it drives me crazy when someone posts up "frame off resto" , and I follow the link only to find tons of mods done to the rig in question...

That´s life :D
Cheers

Pretty lame Peter...

This thread is talking about misinformation...it is everywhere...on most Toyota "historical" websites, EBAY ads, here on mud,...and it is not just Toyota either.

It seems that you have accepted is as OK that uninformed people continue to repeat misinformation...

I did alil looking into the above website...the informations from 2001...and looks like many websites had quoted that site...and that website wasnt even the originator of the lines of misinfo...i see almost the same info from an indoneasian website with the same misinfo from 2000.

Toyota even has miss info:
birth of the BJ Jeep...specs...AK10?

I sent a few emails to toyota about it...and yet its still there...no response :bang:

Another Toyota site

from this link: Toyota USA Newsroom | Toyota's Flagship Four-Wheel Drive Vehicle Redesigned 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser – A Heritage Continues

"which descends from a 1950 4x4 prototype called the AK10"
The AK-10 was a WWII prototype military vehicle and was built in 1944 toward the end of the war.

also "this notwithstanding the presence of the FJ45V, a long, four-door version of the basic FJ40"
The longer version started as the FJ35LV...and later became the FJ45LV

and also "1950 – Development begins on 4x4 AK10 utility vehicle using the Type B engine"
In 1950 development started on the 4x4 and 4x2 BJ Jeep a Utility vehicle using the Type B engine

As long as Toyota don`t have a classic center like other big players ( Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, BMW, VW) have, the miss information will continue, pretty sure...

Yes...

That would be a fun job wouldn't it...to be the Chief Operating Officer for something like that...would love to get my hands in Toyota's archive vault :D

So how long Johnny until you find out some information on my 1976 FJ40 with the M42 transmission?

It only takes an interest and desire to get it right, Toyota is only interested...........to market new vehicles. I often wonder why many owners are so passionate about the make when the mfg really doesn't seem to care. They're welcome to come here and straighten me out if I'm wrong.

As to the original post - the site conjectures that the door opening was changed for ease of access....my theory is it was done to standardize the body and cut costs.

Very True and sad at the same time

equally sad is that all my posts were in reference to just one paragraph on the original link

even sadder yet is my spelling :D

I'll need a secretary to do my writeups for the Archive Center...or a better spellchecker

I leaning torwards BW being the parts supplier and Toyota doing the work themself. This was not a modified stock cruiser. The original crossmember was never installed. Same with the transmission cover and original floor mat. Same design skid plate just stamped to match this setup. Poor english translation on the shifter plate. Then finally it given the desonated type M42 transmission on the VIN plate. If BW had done it I would have expected a add on plate for the modification.

Just have to look at the positive side. Restore your old cruiser anyway you want and say it 100% correct and who to say it's not. We have seen the vehicles Toyota has had restored for their museum in CA and we all know they are 100% correct:rolleyes:
