I recently purchased a '98 Cruiser and had the following completed: New timing belt, water pump, starter, spark plugs, fluids, etc. I have driven it for six days after all of the work was completed without issue. However, I started it up yesterday morning and noticed it missing at idle and low speeds. After driving if for a bit it seemed to be fine. I decided to run to the store later last night and the miss continued and has gotten worse. Anyone have any ideas of where to start troubleshooting?

I'm sure other, more experienced voices will chime in, but if it's a rough idle like you are it might be a coil pack going bad (seems to be a "common" issue. I just replaced one in my '06 that seemed find 75% of the time, but at moderate throttle holding at higher RPM's it would flash a CEL and throw a code.

Check if you are throwing a code, and if it's P030(X) where X is the cylinder number, my first guess would be a coil pack.

Thanks spaber05. I found a great thread tying a lot of coil pack issues together posted by NMuzj100. The check engine light has come on now and will get the code ran. I will post what the problem was when I get resolved.

Happy to help. If that ends up being the problem and you have to order a replacement coil pack, I'd bet that more than a few guys on here would recommend you just grab two and keep a spare in the truck with you in case you run into a similar situation.

Just had a similar circumstance happen myself and am curious what people would say is the problem if the codes were P1300, P1315, P1325, P1330 all at the same time (1,4,6,7). Rough idle for a few minutes, then smooth again. All after timing belt and associated parts were replaced 5 days earlier. Then a second time 4 days later again.

Thanks.

Just in case someone else encounters my same four codes in the future, my mechanic found one generic plug and coil on cylinder 7 and everything seems good now after replacing it to a Denso coil and Iridium plug. We went ahead and replaced all the other plugs too.
