Mining claim run...

That sounds like fun. Count me in, if I can make it work with my schedule and Birf(longfield) replacement on the front long side. That would be locked & winch & heavy & new tires and deep water isn't an issue.

Since we got a little distracted.....

I've only talked to Garett about this, but I have an overnight trip planned out in my head. It involves taking the dirt roads from the Klamath river South over the mountains west of Yreka to Ft Jones, then take the highway to Etna, and over Etna Summit to the 20 acre mining claim where my family lived when I was little. The claim is no longer accessible by vehicle..... except for the "batman entrance" that is a river crossing that hasn't been driven over in years... IE a nice little challenge.

The crossing isn't deep or long, but the bank on the far side has gotten pretty steep, so it should be a fun time. I'm thinking something with lockers and a winch should lead the way... :D So the rest of us can be tugged up if needed... The mining claim is now riddled with rock piles and holes, most made by my dad long ago... So it should be a fun place to do some wheeling, and camp over night. The rock area is only about 5 acres... (So you don't get overly excited.... you know who you are!)

The big question mark on this is how high the water will be... summer or fall is the best time, as the water level has fallen by then...

What day is this run set for? I'd love to come but October is pretty full for me (especially with the meeting already on the schedule)

We are shooting for the 18th now. I don't want to push it back any more as it's getting late in the season.... Halloween is usually about when we see the first snowfall on Etna summit... (5900 ft)

This is only the fact finding mission.... I want to do it again next summer as soon as the river permits....

That's what I was figuring - I'll be in PDX that weekend. Sounds like fun though.

Joel, we'll make sure you can make it next summer, and we'll make a real trip out of it, IE: Take the backroads through the mountains as well. This time I just need to find out if it can be done.... :D I don't want too many people let down if it flops.... Plus I've never really looked at the rock section with a wheeling eye... We may have to make some trouble to get ourselves into...

We can talk more at the meeting.

Heck yeah!! that's exactly why I'm in...who can help make some trouble:doh:...yeah that's right "The Albino Cockroach" can that's who!!:grinpimp:

If I were to tow there in some form or another is there a place to park my Ford that is safe and off the road?

Who invited this guy? :D

I'm thinking a chainsaw, some shovels, prybars, plenty of straps... will be in order... If we need to modify our environment... Hehehe

Woh this is begining to sound like work...no not work, manual labor....no not manual labor.....even worse, Slave labor...he's pulling the whole Tom Sawyer switch on us. Next you'll want us to bring you gifts to improve your plantation!

That scallywag!!

It's too late, you're already an accessory!!! :D

That road isn't paved or gravel is it? Don't want this to be too easy.

So how long is the actuall trail? Is it enough for wheelin or is it just a short shot? Either way I'm in, just wondering what to expect.

I don't think Jerod even knows if there is a trail there yet.

The idea, I believe, is to build one. :D
