For the members who run KO2's, how many miles are you getting per set? I'd heard rumors about KO3's being available just around the corner, but with better weather here, I'm ditching the stock Dunlops and making the switch to KO2's next week. Just wanted to get an idea about how long these tires will last on the LC.

KO3 coming out in july. My set has been on 1.5 years 40-50k miles. I plan to upgrade next winter. Debating about going larger than Toyota recommended size.

***EDIT Wrong info from BFG Rep. No KO3s

KO3 or KM3???? KO3 would be news to me for sure. Just bought a set of KO2's a couple weeks ago, so that would be my luck :)

KO3 - I contacted BFG from their website and thats what they told me

23k miles fighting for a piece of tarmac with yellow cabs on unpaved city streets and highway driving - the tires are wearing well.

Great - thanks for the info.

I had heard some people use these tires more than 100K+ miles. I don't think its possible for me as I am a spirited driver and sometimes hit corners hard. It started losing traction around 35k miles before I did first rotation. (I am terrible about doing rotations).

I got just about 30000 out of my first set. I drive concertivly in my LX. Rarely get over 60 mph, start slow, stop slow, I do drive mostly curvy roads though, considerable off road mostly on logging roads, sand, marsh, only rock climb when I can’t avoid it. I do pull a camper ~5k miles a summer and run winter tires mid October to earlt May.

Also I change my summer tires (currently KO2s) when they have ~15-20% tread remaining and my winter tires when they have ~20-25% remaining when I’m doing sessional change over. I do this as I find considerable diminish in performance from that point on and I consider tires as one of your most important pieces of safety equipment.

35k and going strong. Just starting to increase road noise and show wear. I’ll get to 50k is my guess. I try to rotate every 5k and balance every 10k.

20K on my 2016. Did get 75K out of a set of BFG ATs on my 80 series FWIW

Seems quick to go to KO3, KO was what, 15 years old before being replaced? Hopefully the new KO3 looks more like the old KO. I never got use (looks wise) to the chunky side wall.

Mine have just over 40K on them. Owing fine except that I recently had to replace one due to a screw in the sidewall. New tire is now hanging on the spare holder. I expect to get 6 more months and 10K more out of them before replacing. I usually put Nokians on for 3 months in the winter so I’ll probably pull the KO2’s then and replace them when the Nokians come off. KO3s sound interesting if they make them in the size I want. We’ll have to see.

I am revisiting this thread because I now have over 50K and 2 years on my KO2s and am wondering when I should consider replacing them. How do I measure tread? What other signs should I look for? I’ve got a couple long road trips coming up so I want to make sure they won’t be an issue.

Dan, you and I are in same boat. 2 years/50k miles. I usually change before snow season but thinking to go another year on this set. I rotated once last snow season.

I'd get a tire depth gauge from Autozone for a couple bucks and measure to see how much life you have left. I always replace my tires long before they need to be replaced because I like fresh tires, and if you take remove them with decent life remaining (at least 30% IMO) you can sell them on craigslist for a pretty good amount. I have lots of reasons for doing it this way, but the key point is peace of mind knowing I have newish tires on at all times. From my point of view, I'd replace at 50k especially if you're about to go on some long trips. Having to deal with a tire issue on the road would certainly cost more and be less convenient than if it happened close to home.

KO3? Already? Why the quick upgrade??

I got 110k out of my original KOs, have 50k on my KO2s and plan to run for another year or so. Treadwear has been equal or better in the KO2s although I notice they are SIGNIFICANTLY louder when at 35psi or below than at 40lsi or above.

Regardless of tread wear, I will not run for more than 70k or 5 years. I pushed the KOs too far.

Regarding wear indicators, d not go by tread depth alone on KO2s. They have embedded wear indicators in the tread. Upside down triangular rubber flashing within the treads are the wear indicators. When the triangle is gone, the tires are officially “worn” out.

Thanks, All. BTW, I sort of hijacked the OP’s question on KO3’s. My question was simply in regards to replacing my KO2’s with another set. I have never had a set of tires last this long so I was assuming I would need to replace them at 50k. I’ll check the wear indicators. If I can thoroughly trust them for another 5k then I can hold off until I put my snows on and wait until Spring or later to get a new set of KO2’s.

I've got 17,000 miles on a set bought in May'17. Mostly beltway commuting, some offroading to hunting spots in the shenandoah valley and farm mud. I WILL say...they just decided to go off their wet pavement grip. Noticeably. Nice 40mph 4-wheel drifts on off ramps if theres ANY moisture on the road. Not happy about that. Same with slower 90 degree turns at intersections, twisty back roads, etc. STraight line grip in the wet is good--even trough large puddles at highway speeds. But...will likely have to replace for safety.

Grip on dry is still excellent and they're just starting to make a small amount of road noise. As others have said they are super quiet when new--basically no different than the stock all season tires. But..BFG HAS to do something about the wet traction on pavement.

As to wear, I'd say at 17k miles Ive lost maybe 1/3 of original tread depth. I also noticed the big shoulder blocks having sort of wedge-shaped wear from braking. Wearing evenly, though--no cupping, etc. Great in the light/mod off roading I've done. Some steep and greasy powerlines to a grouse hunting spot, plenty of soft ground and mud with all the rain we've had this year. No meaningful snow driving to rate.
