I've got 17,000 miles on a set bought in May'17. Mostly beltway commuting, some offroading to hunting spots in the shenandoah valley and farm mud. I WILL say...they just decided to go off their wet pavement grip. Noticeably. Nice 40mph 4-wheel drifts on off ramps if theres ANY moisture on the road. Not happy about that. Same with slower 90 degree turns at intersections, twisty back roads, etc. STraight line grip in the wet is good--even trough large puddles at highway speeds. But...will likely have to replace for safety.

Grip on dry is still excellent and they're just starting to make a small amount of road noise. As others have said they are super quiet when new--basically no different than the stock all season tires. But..BFG HAS to do something about the wet traction on pavement.

As to wear, I'd say at 17k miles Ive lost maybe 1/3 of original tread depth. I also noticed the big shoulder blocks having sort of wedge-shaped wear from braking. Wearing evenly, though--no cupping, etc. Great in the light/mod off roading I've done. Some steep and greasy powerlines to a grouse hunting spot, plenty of soft ground and mud with all the rain we've had this year. No meaningful snow driving to rate.

I'm curious about your tire pressure(s). Can you tell us the tire size (e.g. LT285/70R17E), whether you have a LC200 or LX570, and what tire pressure(s) you are using?

Incorrect tire pressure could account for some of the poor wet performance you noted.

Its probably your alignment. My edges are worn down and I swapped front and rears and problem went away. That was around 25k miles

They're 285/60 R18s--OEM sized on stock wheels, 2016 LC200. 35psi all around. I'd be quite surprised if a few more psi changed the behavior. Reminded me of Pirelli P6's on an old Audi4000Q in college. Once they went off...they went way off. Fun to slide around like a rally driver, but...each fun-slide seemed to make them even more slidey. But...air is free. Glad to try raising them. I HAD kept them at 37. Dealer dropped down the pressure at the last service 3 wks ago. Going to rotate them from Left to Right to see if the wedge shaped tread block wear balances out

Actually new 570 owner but I had 305/65/17 KO2s on our 470. I did a 5 tire rotation and all highway, had 40k miles with plenty of tread left. No official measurement but I bet could go another 40k. Ran at 35 psi. Be hard not to get them on the 570.

KO2’s should of rotated at 5k and properly inflated should be good for 80k miles. I got 80k out of KO’s on my 80 series and had 40k on my KO’s on my 100 series when I traded it and they looked new. This is just my personal observation

If you're running KO2s in LT285/60/R18 at 35 psi, that's too low. I'll let the tire guru chime in to confirm, but I think your cold inflation pressure should be 46 psi, front and rear.

No idea whether that pressure difference is causing your wet traction issues, but certainly something easy to address.

I guess you mean LT285/60R18D KO2's.

The Recommended Cold Tire Inflation Pressure for those tires on your 2016 LC200 is 46psi Front/Rear.

Long story short - you are running way underinflated at 35psi and below the minimum safe Load Limit. I strongly recommend you increase your Cold Tire Inflation Pressure to 46psi. It would not surprise me if you realize improved overall performance by doing so.

ETA: @canyonrider posted while I was typing - he is absolutely correct.

If my memory serves me right, your rig is 99% pavement correct? I think its a bit easier for a pavement rig to get 80K miles out of tires than a rig that sees a lot of use offroad.

Does this matter as long as you rotate and balance religiously?

ive had 2 sets of KOs that i put 75k miles on each, still had a little life in them honestly. 40 miles a day and multiple wheeling trips on each set.
Had KO2s on the 200 for about 5-6k miles now and still look like the day i bought them. As others have said, monitor tire pressure, alignment ever so often, and proper rotation and should easily get 70-80k out of them.

I want to reiterate @gaijin's recommendations on tire pressure (PSI). Especially if you are running E-rated tires. I have the 285/65R18 LTE (E rated) and properly run them at 42psi cold. I do a wide range of driving though the majority of the 55K on these tires is highway (some towing a trailer). I have also done a fair bit of off road. And my typical vehicle weight (including tires, passenger and full tank of gas) is ~6500#. About 300# more when loaded for a long trip or camping. And about 800# more when towing our trailer. I rotate every 5K (though for the past year is has been a 4-tire rotation due to my wanting to keep the spare new - purchased about a year ago to replace a tire that had gotten a screw in it). I'll probably run these to 60-65K and swap them out some time next summer (I'll use winter tires this winter).

The only time I have my tire pressure down in the 30's is when I'm going offroad and need to air down. 285/60R18s would be a bit different - @gaijin would have the number. But absolutely not in the 30's unless you are running the D-rated (passenger car) version which are a very different construction and much less suitable for offroad driving.

Thanks for the mentions!

Just one point of clarification: The tire we are talking about for @BradInVA 's application is the LT285/60R18/D 118/115S RWL BFG KO2 - it is a Load Range D LT-metric tire - and the Recommended Cold Tire Inflation Pressure is 46psi on the LC200.

Just rotated and balanced my 285 /55/20 KO2’s on my 2015 LX 570 they had 13,000 miles on them rotated at 5000, 10,000 and now I just did them again at 13,000 miles. They started out at 15/32 tread depth they are now at 14/32 tread depth, even wear all around. I got 80,000 miles out of my first set of BFG AT KO’s on my FZJ80. I’m thinking they might rot out before I can wear them out

80K! That is encouraging. I have 55K on mine. I haven’t measured the tread by I am a long way from the little wear triangle on them. Just put snow tires on which I’ll run until April so that I can hopefully extend my KO2s into 2020. (I’m running about 25-30K per year but if I can stretch the KO2s into next November I’ll put snows on again and replace the KO2s in April 2020. Sweet!)

45K with ~50% tread left on a 2004 4Runner. They wont last that long on my 80 Series though......

32 miles with 100% tread left 🤣 Just upgraded my KO's to KO2's.

I've got almost 15K on mine and do a five tire rotation every 5K miles. They still look brand new. Mostly road use with some light off roading. The did destroy my MPG's however. Not that i bought the LC200 because it was good on fuel, but didnt expect them to eat into it that bad.

The duratrac's on my 80 have 20K miles on them with heavy off roading and show very little wear as well. Also didnt affect my fuel mileage the way the KO2's did.

No K03s?! and July is over.......

Alas, I am saving up for 275/70/R18 BFG K02s unless K03s aren't a myth. Driving with ETC/PWR already has my mpg in the s***ter. Don't need mud terrains to really sink me.

That rumor was posted over a year ago. ;)

I got 90K mostly highway miles out of a set on my 80. Best over all tire I ever bought as I paid $300 for then as new take offs.
