Isit just me or do these winches suck big time? I have a pe8000 on the front of my 60 and this Christmas will be two years since I got it. One month after I got it the control box died. So they send me a new one that's completely different from the first one. Just a month ago that one quit working. So I call and the electrical is covered for 1 year so I'm outta luck. So I can buy a new control box for half of what I paid for the whole thing! So the guy tells me that he thinks it's a computer chip on the back of the control box cover but they don't sell just that part. I can either buy a whole new box for 100 to 200 hundred dollars depending on the model or if they have a box that was sent in for faulty solenoids they can take the cover off of it and and sell it to me for 15 bucks. But they don't have any....

I run a milemarker hydraulic unit (diverted military Humvee assets...) on my 60 and it's great! Simple, sealed industrial solenoids (mounted in the engine compartment, far away from road salt and water), works like a dream and is well engineered and over-built.... So maybe not all of their gear sucks?

.......

Maybe I should have gotten a hydraulic unit. I'm just not very impressed with their electric winches. I guess I was just seeing if anybody else has had problems with them. I'm pretty sure my first post was a rant. I'm calm now.

Nothing worse than spending good money on a tool and have nothing but grief with it. Quality control seems to be worse nowadays that companies can get ISO ratings for promising to consistantly manufacture mediocre gear and living up to their "claims" at audit time.... Makes you long for the simple days... no chips, no bells and whistles, just something that works, and keeps on working! Sort of like a Landcruiser...!
Glad you're feeling calmer, and good luck on getting the part, it'll surface eventually!

sorry to read that.

On the reality check side of things, MM electrics are not among the highest quality / more expensive winches out there to start with. On top of that, permanent magnet winches (as in the PEs ?) are also not a technology conducive to heavy duty use IIUC. Their winches are very inexpensive, so not so surprising they are cutting corners some places (like customer service).

Hope you get that straightened out.

After a the control box on a buddy's Milemarker failed and caused a very dangerous situation, I made him a solenoid box using Warn solenoids, and he has not had any problems since.... Except for his winch is very slow.

Edit: oh yeah, he had to replace his motor once too.

Milemarker more than sucks!

I spent several hundred dollars on a MileMarker winch this spring so I could use it for my ATV's snow plow this winter. I bought it and tested it out a few weeks later and it completely failed. MileMarker claimed it was defective AFTER spending weeks on the phone with their poor company. I had to send them many pictures, make calls to Florida and all those SOB's did was send me a USED part for the winch which I had to install and figure out. After all of this, their used piece of junk part they sent me made no difference and the damn winch still did not work. After contacting them multiple more times they just just ignore me. Amazing that I could buy an expensive winch from them and they DO NOT STAND behind it. They suck and I would NEVER buy one of their sub-par products again. I would not even use it if it were free because I would end up having to replace it because they are JUNK. I know other people who had the same problems with this and they just laughed when I told them because they were treated the same way. STAY AWAY FROM MILEMARKER.

Certainly don't want to make this into a debate over Made in USA vs. China, but..... it's precisely this kind of experience why I choose to stay away from Chinese made stuff, whenever I can. I searched long and hard for my 24V Warn winch, and the service and reliability is why I have this rather than some other brand.

IIRC, when I phoned Milemarker and inquired about where they manufactured their winches, I think the hydraulic ones (for the military) were made in the US and the electric ones, over-seas.

Warn might make some of their stuff overseas now too, which is also why I prefer older and repairable to new and throw-away. Just my 2cents.

I agree with the mile marker quality. I do like my Macbook that came from China :)

Yup, typing on my Dell that came from somewhere over there too!:cheers:

Get yourself an Albright Contactor, someone who does the wiring for you and be satisfied.
Albright Extra Duty Contactor thats where i bought the one i use in my 8274 now, dont know about a distributor in the US.
Guess someone here will know.

That contactor (or one just like it) is what came with my Warn A2500 ATV winch years ago. I guess they make larger models as well.

Wow sounds like there are some problems with the MM electric winches; however on the flip side I have been really satisfied with my MM hydraulic…

I have a Mile Marker 12K hydraulic winch on the front of my 80 series and while it is slow it has never given me a problem. The parts are heavy duty and the set up is simple.

Sorry to hear their other products are not as robust.
