Since my 80 came to me with an empty winch drum, I'm trying to figure out the winch cable installation. Can someone take a picture of how the winch cable anchors to the drum for me?

Thanks.

isn't it just an eyelet end that you bolt to the side of the drum in most cases?

Most winch drums have a hole that the cable/line goes through, then it is secured to the side of the drum in one fashion or another.

You'd think it's an eyelet but this cable end is a bit different. It has an unfinished end and there's a metal tab that came with the cable. It's as if you need to screw that metal tab into the side of the drum and trapping the winch cable end in the process. Anyway, a confirmation from someone with this winch would be great!

Thanks.

It sounds like your drum is NOT like the one pictured below. Look to see if there is a non threaded hole near one end of the drum. If there is, then the cable will go through that. There should be a cover (or you may need to remove one end) to access the end of the drum where there should be a threaded hole for the clip.

In most cases the clip is sort of bird wing shaped with a bolt hole in the middle. The cable is threaded through one side and then looped back through the other, then tighten the bolt.

Surely, just looking at the drum will reveal how it is supposed to work.

Thanks for the clarification, that looks like what I have. Now, if I can only find the bolt!
