Hi guys,

I think I posted about this before, but I have an '02 LC with an MFD and 6 disc DVD changer in the center console. Pushing the "Disc" button on the instrument panel yields an "external system not connected" message. I keep thinking I will take the vehicle to an audio shop locally for repair, but every time I tell myself "nahhhh, you go this!"

I had an idea today that may be the culprit. The PO of this LC had heavily modified the electronics to include Sirius, a rooftop DVD player, remote starter, and other junk. Given none of this worked, I stripped it all out. However, I remembered today that the rooftop DVD player had an S-video cable running through the roof...one that was too thick for me to remove. I found no evidence of this cable up behind the stock head unit. Made me wonder if maybe it was routed through the glovebox or somehow integrated into the system such that pushing the "Disc" button activated the rooftop player. I also noticed that my glovebox sits with a slight gap in it. I am thinking that I should open up the glovebox and explore.

Question: does anyone know how the cable from the head unit routes to the DVD changer in the center console? Is it through the glovebox or straight through the floor? If that cable was intercepted in some way, that could be my problem.

As an aside, the DVD changer does get power and will eject and cycle through discs. In any case, this has been driving me crazy, and I'm not ready to give up yet.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I had that same error message when I tried disconnecting the second row audio controls to install some extra power outlets. I ended up leaving the panel connected to the wiring harness a just tucking it under the back of the center console.

I'm thinking when any of the stock components are disconnected you will get that error message.

Good luck!

This happened to me as well. I have audio but no video. Worked on it for awhile last night with the manual but can't figure it out.
