It doesn't. I had a knock that I chased forever thinking it was engine related. Turned out to be the belts making a knocking noise.

No this is definately coming from inside the motor. It comes through loud and clear at the head of cylinder #1.

check valve adjustment. Its a pain on the 2F's b/c of the air cleaner, but I'd start there. The bearings look okay, and if oil pressure is good, run it.

You only have to remove a couple of bolts to get the air cleaner off, then yank the valve cover with a couple bolts and you are to the valves.
