Yeah, there's a few days left to 2008. But I think events have run their course to the point where we can start figuring.

I would like to start the ball rolling by nominating Art aka packman from Tall Corn Cruisers. Though I have not met him yet, or even talked with him for that matter, his track record is nothing short of amazing. From the energy he brought to helping a flegling chapter get off the ground, helping pull together two TLCA sanctioned events, and stepping up to the BOD in a big way, Art is an amazing source of energy and inspiration.

His vision in spearheading the movement to put a second national TLCA event on the map could well mark another pivotal turning point in the illustrious history of the TLCA.

I believe George Rice might have already received that honor for 2008.

(it was granted in conjunction with Rubithon but I did a poor job of advertising that fact.)

Maybe this is a Mark's off road member of the year :D

Art has really stepped up and I certainaly appreciate his service.

Thinking though for an open Member of the year thread someone from the BOD needs to start a thread listing who the previous winners are, what the typical items that are looked for and then to ask for nominations. Coming right out and starting the thread with your nomination does not start that type of open process.

I appreciate what you want to do and Art is deserving of nomination of many awartds, just need to have a process. I could start a thread best TLCA wheeling rig of the year, but thats not within my boundriues of responsibilities.

Happy Holidays Art and Mark. I hope I didn't crap in your wheaties, wasn't my intent.

Then I guess it would be really cool if someone from the BOD posted what the 'rules' are. I'm just an enthusiastic member; what do I know. Obviously, no offense intended, or taken here.

Is it time yet?

Did I miss something?:frown:

Looks like the higher UP are not interested in this project.

I had not remembered about it until this thread. And, I don't know what the time frame is. I do remember voting on MOY at BOD meetings. I *think* that someone(s?) nominates someone(s?) and then they get voted on. I'll ask around...

Based on the BOD call last Thursday (4/30), it was agreed that we need to discuss now and elect at the next meeting.

The concept of Member of the Year and Hall of Fame was Alan Losbaugh's idea. He did a good job reminding the BOD to select someone in the spring. That said, I think it's a good idea to recognize folks that have accomplished great things for TLCA and our hobby.

I nominate Casey Campbell for the honor of Member of the Year. Casey stepped into the role of Treasurer and was immediately slapped with a $25,000+ bill because the former Treasurer failed to file our taxes. Casey pulled our behinds out of the fire and brought us up to date with the IRS. Casey has been consistent and faithful to TLCA and accomplished superhuman feats without asking for any recognition at all.

I think he deserves the Member of the Year award for what he has accompliashed.
My two cents,
Happy Trails! N

You make a good point there Nick. I am glad I am not the final arbiter of any of this, just another enthusiast like yourself.

I take it there are no hard and fast rules as to what qualifications it takes to make one a nominee other than having folks like you and me willing to talk them up. Casey's accomplishments are worthy indeed, and my support of Art is not intended to demean them in any way. But as I sit here typing this, directly above my typing box is an ad for the GATOR event, a very visible reminder of effort Art has spearheaded to connect TLCA to the larger off-road world.

I sure wish there was more imput on this.

And I am sorry to say that I will most likely NOT be on the next conference call, as I will be driving 300 miles to attend a Bureau of Land Management Steering Committee meeting.

I emailed Alan and asked about criteria, process, etc., and the short reply gave me the impression that there aren't hard and fast rules about criteria and process, other than nominations and vote.

As Nick pointed out above, we did discuss this during our last meeting and agreed to discuss this electronically here and on bodrepsi and then vote next meeting, which will be Thursday May 28.

Mark does the Trail Crew have an alternate delegate who can attend the meeting and represent your chapter?

Jeff, at the FOJ meeting I drove to this morning [see report in my clubhouse forum], it was announced that the BLM will NOT be having their Steering Committee meeting this month due to a scheduling conflict with an Abandoned Mines Symposium earlier in the day. I am going to attempt to contact those individuals on the committee I need to stay in contact with electronically [not my favorite mode of communication, as you well know] before next Thursday, and will therefore be able to be on the conference call!:bounce:

Congratulations Art!:bounce:

very much deserved
