pulled the injectors for cleaning and service today and noticed some of the sleeves that are on the injector are cracked or melted. The spacers are all in good condition. Are these sleeves necessary to the injector? Haven't been able to find any thing else on these. thanks

What sleeves??? Picture...

There are o-rings and grommets etc - where the injector sits in the engine side 'pockets' and on the fuel rail side. Those need to be soft and rubbery to seal. They are available from the dealer etc and are quite inexpensive.

cheers,

This is my first car with fuel injection so this has definitely an adventure. After further searching i found out they are called the pintle caps. Half of them were melted and the other half broken. ordered new ones and will have the injectors inspected by Rob Stark in Rancho. also had a gnarly fuel leak from the fuel pulse regulator. other than replacing o-rings, is there anything else that the system needs?

I had the same problem on mine. I ended up ordering a fuel injector service kit for a 4Runner from ebay (based on the sellers pictures) and all parts fit perfect. It seems Toyota does cross over certain parts.

I know a lot of people use RC Injection out of torrance CA. I found a place closer to me called Rob Stark (not that Robb Stark) who does fuel injection for old corvettes. i think for a flow test, bench, and sonic clean it should be ok. I ordered new pintle caps, O-rings, and fuel pulse regulator (the original culprit for a nasty leak). i know re-installation can be a pain, I've been reading up on a few other posts. Of course trying to read up on "are pintle caps really needed" is like starting a discussion about politics at a family reunion, so ill just go with what the FSM shows...
