Jeff,

Could you clarify one of the agenda items? Do you mean that the present $30 LSLC dues would be used to pay TLCA's $30 dues, like a direct pass through?

Or are you talking about the idea someone floated of increasing LSLC-HC dues to $60 and forwarding $30 to TLCA for individual member's dues?

Thanks,
Lee

Hi Lee,

Direct pass through. If you had already paid TLCA for this year, it would apply to the next year's membership.

Regards,

We just voted less than 2 months ago to not abolish dues when you were running for elections. Now you bring this back up? I get it, you dont want dues. But this was just discussed....

Jeff,
Iam confused too. Are you saying members of LSLC would pay our annual LSLC Dues. Then the club would donate or pay our TLCA dues for the year. So in effect the club would not keep our dues, but use the same funds to help TLCA out.

TLCA is almost bankrupt, and needs members bad - maybe just a donation from our club? From talking with Nick Stone at round up, the TLCA is operating month to month, and even the Toyota Trails publication is thin last month, and might not even go to print this month unless they can raise the money.

I have not seen a Treasury report from Brain, and would like to see where we stand before we even open things up to a huge debate tonight. If we are cash flush, then maybe we can help out TLCA?

Bailing Out TLCA

Mark,

Not speaking for Jeff, but that's the way I understand the proposal. I have no vote, but it's an idea I would support if it would help save TLCA.

Lee

Yep, Mark's on point.

TLCA is just scraping by. A donation is nice and always welcome. But.... our chapters should come first. Worst case scenario is TLCA drops the magazine and goes 100% on-line.

We need about 270 renewals/new memberships every month continue as we are. We are doing okay right now, but historically renewals drop off during the Spring and Summer.

The rough numbers are these.
10K every other month for Toyota Trails (most of that is printing and postage)
1800 per month for the Administrator
300 per month for the Treasurer
500 per month for the Webmaster
500 per month for office expenses, new member packets, etc.

A donation will not save Toyota Trails. What we need are more memberships (ones that renew).
We only get 12 - 20 clubs participating on the TLCA conference calls. Dealing with the politics and bureaucracy runs most folks away. The leadership is trying to keep the magazine afloat, but the future is pretty bleak. I'm sorry to bear such bad news.
Please call on me if I can provide further information.
Happy Trails! N

Nick,

This sounds grim. Does TLCA have a current budget and financial statement available for viewing? Are there cash reserves? If not, it looks as though there's no wiggle room, with all dues going to pay monthly $8100 in operating expenses.

Thanks for filling us in,
Lee

Officially, Brian should download it and show it to folks during the meeting. Please understand. I'm happy to email it to you, but I don't want folks publishing it on bulletin boards and mailing lists. It's too easy to alter and make into misinformation.

PM me your regular email.

My numbers are very rough. We have no savings standing idle. Normally, we bank money in December through March. That helps pay for the lean, summer months.

Thanks for asking!
Nick

I understand. I'm out of state and won't be at the meeting tonight. PM on the way. Thanks Nick.

I didn't realize things were so dire at TLCA. I'll speak to our members in Alamo City and make sure everyone is up to date with their TLCA membership.

I like the magazine and would rather it go online instead of just going away. These are interesting times we're living in.
