Ahhh yeah bring it all!!

My first event possibly??

I finally convinced my wife to hand over her 2000 LC. I've been cruising ih8mud for two years now. And I've been looking for a great "first event" to take the cruiser out on. I may have some new (bigger) tires by then, but basically its stock other than replacing the broken 6cd changer with an Alpine and Ipod setup. I may ditch the running boards shortly.

This seems like a great trip. I have the same question about bringing kids. I could go either way.....invite a buddy and go up without the family.....or bring my kids and wife along for their first offroading trip (7,5,3 yrs old). We do a lot of camping, but I've never taken them in my 74 bronco because its just too small for five.

What's the pace of the ride? are there plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy the scenery, etc.

It would be great to hear from some folks that have taken or not taken their kids.

Steve

The pace is slow and we do stop a couple of times, once for lunch about half way through. Expect to be in the rig about 6 hours for the trip. The camping is primitive but there are "outhouses". The swimming is safe for all and probably some of the cleanest water you will ever see. You can wade in shallow areas or head off to one of the holes. Stock rigs can handle the trail fine but some may take a little damage to running boards if you have them and you pick the wrong line. Body damage can be avoided without any problems, I can't remember anyone receiving a dent from taking the standard route. You may want to ask Cindy about her 4Runner that Tony was driving though :grinpimp:

Yes, I put the first dent on Cindy's 85 4Runner a couple years ago taking the hard line at the top of the wagon ruts (sluice).

The only damage I know of other than that was Dalene Hutchings tagged a runner board on her brand new stock runner.

Your only truck worry... scratches from some of the burned trees that are starting to sluff over.

It can be a long ride for young kids. The trail is 14 miles long, and nothing but small rocks making for a rough ride. We have lost wives (that is, they rode once and never again). We are serious when we say light wheeling, but extremely rough and rocky. We leave at 9 AM, stop for lunch around noon, and get off the trail around 3 or 4, then you still have 5 miles of rough forest service road to the campground. Do not under estimate it.

Big tires are not needed. Good 1st trip to hone your skills.

Bring an item to share at the pot luck, and there is always plenty of salads so think main course item or hot item. Dinner is usually about 1 hour after we arrive at camp, so bare that in mind if cooking.

And yes, Rondu and I will provide some deserts.

Big News - This years slogan... Rough and Ready! This is based upon the initial section of trail that we climb to the ridge top is called the Rough and REady drainage!

Oh, and come prepared for cocktails after the kids go to bed. :)

So Matt's bringing everyones lunch leftovers for dinner....... That should be great! :D

Steve, deffinatly take off the running boards. There's only a few spots to ding them up, but that's all it takes. Or leave them on, bend them, and tell the wife it wouldn't have happened if you/she had sliders..... :D

I think the FJ Cruiser that wasn't with the trail team, last year, bent it's running board too....

thanks for all of the suggestions.

I like the "leave the running boards on" idea. I can always make the pitch for slee sliders now, and use the old "I told you so" approach later.

we dont need no stinking running boards :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

The trail aint no thang but a chicken wing.
You can make it as hard or as easy as you want.

Just got myTT and the app for this, I hope there's room for me to be there and represent the big city pretty boy liberal yuppie scum of PDX :grinpimp: ! Also I just talked my sig other to come along on her first Trail! Hope to see you all there!

Registrations are coming in...a new record for the earliest...but it's a 4-way tie, so I'm keeping the prize:D

Nice to see the enthusiasm. This will be our best run ever:beer:

To add to the potential damage discussions, the trail can eat stock running boards on stock lift rigs. It has happened to someone every year. That's not to say it "will" happen, but I feel this must be noted, so everyone has their eyes open & aren't surprised "if" it happens. A couple victims seemed to take it a little hard.

Due to my lack of diligence to proof the ad in Trails, please note that my e-maill addy is wrong again:o It should be bomkehome@hughes.net. The phone # is right:)

I prefielded the trail last week, as far as the snow line, & am happy to report that for late winter, the trail is most aptly "Rough & Ready". So, now I have ants in my pants to get the clock speeded up.

Registration is going out in tomorrow's mail - looking forward to seeing everyone again!

Brian
